2nd year growing Dawsum here. You look at it throughout the year and it looks pretty average but it seems to give a pleasant surprise once you get the combine in itFirst time growing this year and noticed the ear’s starting to split open a little. Has any one else had similar experience? I was thinking of growing it again for next year but unsure if I’d want a large area of it.

Only cut a a couple of acres as moisture is a too high still. Just a bit nervous about the possibility of it shedding in a wet harvest? It’s not rotten ripe as the heads still take a good pull to come off the straw.Looks like it will thrash nicely
I always like to see this in wheat, I always consider it a sign of excellent grain fill.Only cut a a couple of acres as moisture is a too high still. Has the advice on reel speed and input also changed? When I started, the correct way was said to be bars in the crop at the level of the ears, and speed slightly faster than forward speed. Now you see operators, particularly on YT videos, with the reel right in and speed much higher relative to forward speed. Even in rape.
