We are looking at a 2017 2.4 to replace a old Isuzu which has been 💩 .we run 2 pick ups the other a hilux. L200 is a lump cheaper than a 2nd hand hilux.
Are L200 2.4 reliable it has 64000 on the clock .
Or are they best avoided?

don’t be put off by the doom mongers on here who think the same of a 20yr old Mitsubishi as a new one. As you say a large chunk cheaper than a hilux put the money to one side and save it for a rainy day

We’ve 4 in the family now there a rough farm truck and are easily fixed by yourself (there’s a L200 owners Facebook group for help with parts very cheap) mines 170000 miles on the clock
really comfortable on the road and mine has heavy duty suspension fitted... I no there not rated to tow 3.5 ton but I’ll happily throw the 14ft cattle trailer on for small loads

what I do suggest is go for a older/more basic one with out the electric key and electric 4wd engagement or else you’ll need to use a garagemore often :ROFLMAO:

Jumping out of 3rd gear is a known issue but covered by the 5yr warranty.Probably not been done on that one if it’s not done any towing. Not a disaster if you have to pay for it but something to be aware of,other than that they are very good.

We have a 2010 with about 100,000 on the clock and the only thing it's had done is a seized brake caliper. There's more Mitsubishi in our local market than anything else. Great shame they're pulling out, there's plenty worse

I had a 2016 series 5 warrior. It was a great truck, with no issues over the 5 years I had it. Ive just changed it with 70k on the clock, spending its life pulling stock box and running around the farm and as use as my 'car' too. I couldn't fault it really.

One neighbour has just dumped his 2 year old one in for a Toyota, says it’s been loads of bother and dealer crap. Diesel in the engine oil amongst other things, and neighbour the other way has just has his engine head gasket done on an 11 plate with 100k on so not so bad really as he likes his. Our vet runs one and really likes it.

i have driven a fair few. I really rate them. They have the most rear seat headroom and leg room of all of them. They can be driven in 4wd all the time on road which is good in winter. In low and diff lock off with TC off they will go place a landrover would only dream of.
Would happily buy one with my own money

I have a 65 plate (same series as 2017 model) and a very different beast to the 54 plate it replaced. Only drawbacks are 3.1t (legal) towing limit and 1st gear is quite high for pulling away in high range with a full trailer on.
As above, check the third gear synchro has been done (it might be still within the warranty). I had mine done just before the warranty ran out.

My 2007 L200 just spat a balance belt which took out the cam belt ..... top end it totalled, rockers snapped, bolts retaining camshaft torn out of threads and both camshafts snapped clean in two ! Only 120000 miles ..... just unlucky I'd guess but a google would show its not uncommon.
Sold for salvage to be replaced by a 2015 L200 with 23000 on the clock , hope I'm luckier with this one !

Tbh if I get to 100k with a farm pickup trouble free I would be chuffed. Must be equivalent to 300k in a normal car when you take into consideration mine will do 25% of its work off road and 25% with a trailer on ( and I don’t do half loads). I always promise myself that I’m going to change it before the warranty runs out but never do and generally run till knackered.

Out of curiosity were the timing belts and tensioners replaced a the correct intervals? Given that the previous set should have been replaced at 100,000 miles so for the balancer shaft belt to "depart" after another 20,000 miles would seem odd???

I had 07 plate animal for just shy of 7years without any major bills, payed £7500 with 68000 miles sold it to ‘we buy any car’ with 147000 for £2800 it needed five new tyres, belt change over due, only one key, truckman top sliding glass smashed, lock knackered, rusting on the wheel arch’s and tailgate, it was a great truck and I think I had my money’s worth out of it

I think the 2017 2.4 model Whindy is looking at will have ditched the balancing shafts idea run by a nasty inadequate belt set up with pulleys too small on the ends in favour of a much more reliable chain driven timing set up.
Mitsubishi definitely has the far superior 4x4 set up with central diff than the rest. I wouldn’t know how reliable those newer engines are as I have no experience of them, I think they went to an all aluminium block design I think I once read
