I spied this in a magazine today, the towing weight is specified (in the small print at the bottom of the page, apologies for the poor pic) dependent on the number of axles on the trailer, 3.5te for a tri axle braked trailer, and 3.1 for a single or double axle braked trailer. I have never seen it described this way before, has anybody else?

I spied that small print the other day too. Would that mean that my older L200 was actually legally capable of carrying more than 10 sheep in my tri-axle trailer?:scratchhead:

I’ve never seen any reference to number of trailer axles and weight limits, so would be interested to here too.

Think its more to do with a tri axle being more stable running straight.
A tri axle is less likely to go in to a swing and waggle the arse of the truck about.
Not sure but I think the nose weight limit on my Ivors are the same for the tandem and the tri axles.

Not sure how this would be implemented on the truck plate though? Normally its just got all the weights and stuff on there, no mention of axles etc.

But isnt it possible to have better total braking on 2 axles than 3? ....think of the difference in 14 tonne farm trailers specs.
Possible, but not necessarily practical of economical. You could put a single axle on if you liked? Triples are much more stable and if you get a puncture you can carry on...
