The problem with any politicians making statements about issues they know nothing about is that because some pressure group or other has it on their agenda then they think it gets them votes, hence the Badger Cull ban, hunting again, live exports and the classic Mega Farms.

I would recommend any of you to "Listen again" to Farming Today when the shadow environment lady was talking about Mega farms and intensive agriculture and antibiotics.

Believe me she should get an award for not having the faintest clue about what she was talking about!!!

We have a 26 mile wide moat in the UK. Does this stop illegal migrants?

You think a pretty wall will stop someone? The USSR tried, had machine guns, towers, mines and dogs. The only way is to remove the reason people are entering the country in the first place.

It stops most and if France enforced its own and international laws there would be, effectively, none.

Ditto President Trump's proposal, of course it won't stop all movement, but it will reduce it significantly.

I agree wholeheartedly with the above . "remove the reason " . But what is the reason and why . We're still a member of the European Community , and as such , presumably , subject to the same rules and regs that govern France Germany et.al. I was under the impression that refugees from repressive or warring regimes were supposed to stop in the first SAFE country that they managed to enter . That being the case why is the UK so attractive to asylum seekers? I presume it's the ease with which grants , hand-outs , housing etc . are doled out . It's surely the case that other European countries are considered safe havens , and also that we are supposed to adhere to the same European laws as they are . So why , I ask ? I have to conclude that we're just a soft touch. Is there a government who will dare to alter this ?- present or still "in - waiting " NO. NO . NO. The present government are frightened to death of being labelled "non- caring " and the possible next won't alter it because that's what they do , and it's somebody else's money anyway .

I note with interest that asylum seekers & others do not queue up to enter Mother Russia, probably because they are not given state handouts etc.I am convinced that President Putin has the right idea.

There are some very simple reasons that the migrants head for the uk.
The first most important, is they in the main speak the Universal langauge English. They dont speak French, Spanish , Italian , Greek etc.
Second , we are fairly relaxed about people working in the black economy, most of those jobs in Europe are restricted to prostitution.
Lastly , as a nation we are very liberal and fair minded towards treating people who are prepared to work
