I don’t think there is a need . The price of power means that panels today are viable for most people especially combined with batteries and flexible pricing of power.
those who can’t afford the panels are not likely to be attracted by FITs in my view

I would totally agree we are now installing 30 year panels that are costing 3 p per kw can’t see how they can be subsidised further, also the repowering of turbines will allow 3 x more electric to be produced with out increasing the FIT payments

If you can install for 3p/kw then please supply 80 kW and I will cancel my existing order! Postal order for £2.40 in the post.
Although panels are very much cheaper now, I have not seen any down as far as 3p/watt, let alone a thousandth of that. Thinking around 11.5p/watt bifacials.

Rather than think about new installations, some pondering of extending the life of existing generating stations after FIT would be wise. Solar different, but the first significant breakdown after my 20 years is up (wind) will be gas-axe time.

Most UK power stations are already running way beyond planned closure.

All UK political parties of note are committed to increased rollout of renewables, which are needed due to expected energy swap from oil to electric.

One solution would be to enforce all new housing is plumbed for local heat schemes....although nimbys dont like incinerators either.

..and whilst I agree that best and most versatile land should NOT go into solar and should be safeguarded for food production, this, along with the already mentioned patchy grid capacity will lead to disparity in location of solar farms at least in the near future.

So areas of Grade 3b land with capacity at present will see a tranche of applications if landowners decide to take up offers of development.

Other areas of better land and / or no grid capacity won't have the applications because a) they won;t get through planning and b) developers don't want the expense of a exploring a project until there is grid capacity.

In the 3b land areas, councillors and / or planning officials start to say no because 'we have done our bit' and 'there are too many solar farms in this area' so, in the absence of development in the latter areas, it all grinds to a halt after a few years.

There is no grid capacity in my area, northern power grid expect there to be capacity by 2030 at the earliest! Go a few miles north, over the Scottish border they are upgrading substations and connections for future renewable generation !
