Working from home downsides.....

1. Same 4 walls whether you are working or living your life.
2. Lack of interaction with people - I`m a people person.
3. Systems - great when they work, which is about 50% of the time.
4. No structure to the day and there are distractions.
5. People "checking in" to "catch up" takes time out of the working day - would take seconds face to face.

It's not all it's cracked up to be.

Apparently some bought a mouse that would move on their computer at home to give the office the inference they were working , in fact they were elsewhere

Every organisation concerning public service where employees are working from home is a disaster in my opinion. The obvious reasons for this are that communications go astray, clerical staff are unable to collate and disseminate information and the home workers are generally not working efficiently. Net result is a c…k up.
Examples. GP surgeries, DVLA, council services, insurance services.
Our doctors surgery contains few front line workers, practically no patients, an immorally overworked clerical department and a catalogue of mistakes that make Tommy Cooper look like a genius.

Tommy Cooper was a genius🤷‍♂️

Indeed. I tried it long before Covid, as my employer encouraged it. Worked fine for a week. Thereafter the lure of the farm drew me out of the home office, just to do one little quick job. Then it became two quick jobs, before long I was farming when I should have been on the day job.
Went back to the office, and was glad to do so. Too many distractions..

It's a theme of this forum. No one could ever possibly work as hard as them.

In fact, everyone is bone idle in comparison.

It's a theme of livestock farmers. It's not that they (including me) are necessarily more productive than other hard working people. I think it's due to the fact that most don't get, or take, proper time off. So it does tend to feel that way when you are working Christmas Eve, christmas day, boxing day, the rest of the in-between week, and new year - before resuming normal service in January.

That's entirely up to them. There are plenty of self employed stocks persons happy to work to allow you to take time off.

I found the way to get round that, was when I was doing my "job" job, I put on a collar and tie and then would not go out and do farm work (even if that day was all at home), however the firm began to issue Polo shirts to everyone and dress down, I found my attitude to work seemed to change with this change to dress down culture, I don't know if I was the only one who felt that.

Serious amount of cases down here at the moment, know at least 60 people with it although all over 16 will have been double jabbed so no one hospitalised from it.

I can see district lockdowns coming into force where certain areas can’t control it, a “council house” street where all the kids mix every day and every night is where the most cases are near here. A birthday party in a pub last weekend has set off hundreds of positive cases too apparently 🤷🏻‍♂️ Doesn’t help it’s half term and millions of people have decided to flock to the area again 🤦🏻‍♂️

Not surprised, daughter keeps testing negative but after 4 tests we’re sure she has it, school havn’t said there are cases yet my wife knows there is from talking to parents of positive children 🤦🏻‍♂️ Fortunately rough weather and half term means her 10 days isolation won’t be an issue

We've never gone back to being in the office full time - we now are only expected to be onsite when we are teaching.

I much prefer this in every way. I'm more productive when planning etc at home (office is large and open plan), did enjoy all the chats though. A quick call on teams to discuss work tends to be more focussed than random chat in the office. My dogs seem happier, and my breaks to take them out etc are much better than going for coffee at work. Can combat screen malaise with some pressups, quick bit of weeding etc rather than finding someone in the office to have a natter to. Less money spent on fuel (better for my pocket and the environment).

That said, I have been self employed and am used to working under my own steam.
