Labours Position

We are going to ask the EU for a deal , but then ask the people if they want to remain against the best deal we can get .
It really has become a total joke
Seems quite sensible to me, compared with asking people to vote for an unattainable pipe dream and then blaming everyone else when you can’t achieve what you’d promised.

Not exactly a strong negotiating starting point though. Labour go to the EU, we're here to negotiate a deal and then we'll have a referendum, don't worry as we are going to campaign for remain anyway, don't make the deal too attractive for us so we can tell the people this is the best we can get, better to vote remain:banghead:

Completely agree
What sort of pipe dream were you thinking of that is unattainable? Just out of curiosity

Why don't all all those who obstruct and frustrate the referendum just be honest and tell us that they think they know better than the people?
Why don't they tell us that they wish to ignore the referendum and remain in the EU?
Then we would know exactly where they stand and we could vote for or against them in an election. But somehow they won't even agree to an election because they know they would be kicked out.
They cannot keep blocking progress without offering a clear alternative. So far they can't even agree in their own parties on a way ahead.
At least with Boris and the surviving Conservatives we have clear resolve and direction.

There has to be a deadline. There has to be a clear declaration of intent. Muddle and talk of more referenda is just kicking the problem down the road leading to months of uncertainty.

Tom Watson and Jeremy Corbyn are at odds with each other. They are at odds with the Libdems who are at odds with the SNP on any way forward. Hopeless.

How could agreement be reached on the questions to be asked in a second Referendum?

Who would describe the ''Deal''. And in the unlikely event that an impartial committee could agree on the wording, who would be responsible for printing the leaflets to be sent to every household?

Who would be responsible for agreeing and publishing a leaflet describing the consequences of Remaining in the EU?

We only had one chance of a decent deal, be prepared to use the threat of walking away with no deal.
To tell the EU that they want to re-negotiate a deal and then use it to push for a second referendum is crazy, why would they offer anything when they don't want us to leave?
This could be a cunning plan to get us to vote remain as who would want to give more power to our own parliament when it's full of brainless idiots.

And the unattainable pipe dream was? The question was to Remain in the EU or to leave. That is clear enough so where is the pipe dream?
I asked that and the "details man" didn't answer
you know the chap I mean the one that don't like broad non factual statements
can't for the life of me think who it is now ? any ideas :whistle:

Quite right. There is nothing 'unattainable' about it, the fact is that it can't currently be attained because there are a majority of undemocratic prigs bunkered in the Commons. They are determined not to respect the Referendum result and are too hypocritical and scared to agree to an election in which they know they'll be booted out.

Well an election will come, it will probably give the Tories a mandate to leave and a working majority to be able to do so - and don't be surprised if you see a note in their manifesto mentioning the removal of the Fixed-term Parliaments Act too. :)

Apologies to bob - I’d missed this earlier in cluster of work issues. The promises I was referring to were the electioneering “easy deal”, “no downsides” type ones we were sold Brexit on. Self evidently, they have not come true.

As for the next election - let’s wait and see. I don’t have the same expectation of a Tory majority though, and would expect nobody to have one - which would just lead to more and more frustration, I expect. It seems strange that neither the Tories or Labour have realised that the centre ground is ripe for taking - they seem entrenched in the extreme right and left, which is giving the minor parties a bonanza.

Teabreak over, back to work.
