Labours Ten New National Parks... what do you reckon

They won't buy the land they will seize it. The labour party, if they can still be called that belive in public ownership for everything. I don't think a lot of the general public have cottoned on to how extreme and dangerous these lot are.
Yes the Tories are useless but at least they aren't nutjobs.
I have to say my experience suggests most senior Tories are now as you describe, nutjobs!

Explain how? Boris refused to appear as had urgent need to attend unveiling of a statue! Sent Gove and television crew along, Gove who is not party leader turned up for party leader debate on climate change. Now comrades Gove et al threatening review of channel 4 licence.

So you think the media know how to run a country ?

Last time I looked a government has ministers. Each minister specialising in a specific area.

Does Gove or Boris know more about Environmentalism ? Obvious answers on a postcard.

If the comrades get it we will all be sent to Wales to count these fudging trees.

We won't actually fit all of Jezza's trees in Wales. I was reading where someone had worked out how much space would be required for his total number, and it was an area larger than Wales, extra to the woodland we have now.

I read somewhere it was roughly 23% of the total aera of the uk, or about 21500 sq miles.

I'd like to see them successfully plant trees on the hills of the North pennines, wouldn't be too long before they fell over again in 100 mph plus wind.

Trees definitely won't grow in the former lead mining areas

Theoretically the Crown owns all the land in the country. People just have different kinds of leasehold/freehold that can theoretically be taken away at any time by the royal prerogative. Without subsidies land in the N Pennines that does not have sporting value would have little value anyway. It could easily be compulsorily purchased for trees

Trees are not actually a long term way of removing co2 from the atmosphere. You would have to bury the wood deep underground to take it out of the carbon cycle long term

I think planting trees is a great idea. And would rather do this than farm the land personally
BUT
Most of the land is privately owned and these owners need “incentive” to plant trees
Which many will do willingly IF the “incentives” were favourable

after planting these trees will need care, watering, pruning, protecting from pests and disease and weeds. There needs to be an aftercare £££ package

after the trees lifetime, there needs to be a harvest and replacement policy So these trees can be looked at as a long term crop

and NO PUBLIC ACCESS. Most trees don’t survive once planted or naturally regenerated because of humans....

I’m quite looking forward to planting my farm in trees.... don’t need to pay any staff...so lay all of them off... or have expensive machinery or suffer the drought/flood/price fluctuation of arable farms
And it will block “the nice view” of all the posh houses on the urban fringe

You miss the point, this was a party leaders debate.
Whilst a minister is assigned to a specific policy area this does not make them a specialist, they have working to them the specialists who brief them. Occasionally one does see a minister appointed who has specialist knowledge of the policy for which they are minister.
If channel 4 were looking for each parties specialist on the environment to appear that would have been whom they invited they did not.
Whether the leaders would give more informed debate is a moot point, but that is what was arranged and in all honesty a couple of those leaders gave well briefed responses. Boris didn't turn up because those who advise him knew he would give a poor account of himself.

Just heard Boris say on LBC he wants to plant millions of trees on higher elevation farmland. Seems as if this is a civil service policy agreed by all parties. China has been planting billions of trees on arid pastoral land they are moving their Islamic minority peoples off

No I don't miss the point at all.

You've been hood winked by the media .. Im not interested in being played by Channel 4, BBC, ITV, SKY or anyone else.

I want to know what the policies are. I want to ensure when I vote for a manifesto that it is enacted. Not ditched by a bunch of anti democratic idiots whilst they sit on their backsides doing very little for 4 years.

Better still I want those that have FAILED over the past 4 years .. and for decades before that .. to be brought to account.

For example the Somerset levels flooding debarcle of farmers PAYING for dredging for 20 years and the Environment Agency doing NOTHING.

Why should I put up with media biased rhetoric and platitiudes ? What is the point in letting these people get away with not being responsible ?

I couldn't give a toss about Boris .. Corbyn is a terrorist supporter, he shouldn't even be allowed in Westminster.

I think the same.

We've seen this coming for a long time. The Guardian pumping out propaganda based on science "White Papers" which are totally unscientific. Whislt Environmentalists use "Science" like some kind of battering ram .. Cows don't drink the complete rainfall in the Amazon .. yet these idiotic "Scientists" have labelled it so and our dear media print it as a fact.

China has decimated 100s if not 1000s of miles of coastline.
China has built complete ghost cities which are deviod of people .. just used for speculators to make a fast buck. Tower blocks which fall over and crumble in 5 years.

You say Corbyn is a supporter of terrorism which shows it is you who have been played by the UK media. If you were to actually establish the facts you would be aware that it he was a major player in facilitating the good Friday agreement. That he was more open about his involvement than Maggie who was negotiating with the terrorists whilst publicly proclaiming she would not negotiate with terrorists. I do not criticise her for this stance as it was the start of a long road which with the help of politicians from around the world led to her successors bringing the troubles to an effective end. If one follows your logic then all those politicians are supporters of terrorism. I would have more respect for your views if you were not to make such I'll informed comments.

Surely the point is that most people are concerned with what the various Party’s policies are on things like the environment, not just the single issue that Farage’s disciples think is all that’s important.
Obviously little point in the great Nige attending as he’d get ripped apart for his lack of coherent policies....

Been assessing various blocks of land for shooting coverts... Might not see much use myself, but I can live (sorry!) in hope that I'm still popping away in 20years time!

In The Long Dark Tea-time of the Soul, Thor was punished by being sent to Wales to count all the stones.

Jobs for the boys (and girls). My sons idea to flog the livestock and let the farm out to offroaders to do as they wish begins to appeal. (And that's after years of trying to keep him off the fields!) I know of a couple of places that do this, not sure if they produce main income or just a hassle free way of earning some income from a secondary enterprise. Niether are in a NP though.
