Needing 30 hill Cheviot ewe lambs as changing another heft from blackies. Is the sale at Lairg on Tuesday the best option or will there be more genuine hill lambs at sale in September?

You've some traveling to go!

My best friend goes every year... Brings home around 200 ewe lambs. Its a sale iv always wanted to go to, but never managed to be free for. Typically Im looking to be free enough to go this week... but he never offered me the chance this year

Lairg has the name, and certainly would be worth going - but maybe also attracts bigger prices? Dingwall on the 17th, then 24th, may be a better bet?

Got the offer of a lift on Tuesday and could get lambs on same lorry home but just thinking might all be the big singles at this sale as seems early for genuine hill lambs.

If you check the link I posted, the first NCC sale was last week, and there's 3 this week... so it's now or never really.

Lairg is both a ewe lamb and store/wedder sale. Some farms will wean and then sell everything at this sale in one go.

If you can get up, and get your lambs home, go for it (y)

If you don't get in the next few sales at Lairg/dingwall a lot will be getting retained by what you call proper hill units for the Hogg scheme. Dribs and drabs will come through most of the time but maybe not what you want. After looking last year from end of sept onwards we ended up waiting till after 1st of April for the special ewe lamb sale and topped up privately from another source

You could also just tell a helpful UA member of staff what you need and tell them to get the lambs for you and arrange the haulage??[emoji6]

I know you want lambs but the shearlings weren't much dearer than the lambs last year and you can put them straight to the tup.
The fancy names made good money but you could get good strong sheep for the £120 mark. Plenty to choose from but they get sold first so you have to get stuck in early or you'll miss them
