Lamb vaccines and adverse reactions?

Advice please.

Are there more likely to be side-effects in young lambs from Heptavac than from Ovivac?

The situation is I've got a small batch of late lambs to vaccinate & I need something with pneumonia in it. If I use Ovivac I'll be throwing quite a few doses away because of the bottle size. I've already got a small bottle of Heptavac P in the fridge, that's just still in date from last back end BUT is it ok to use in 3-4 week old lambs? (I'm told locally that its "hard on them" & I'd get adverse reactions using it at that age. )

(As it is I occasionally get stiff/lame lambs after Ovivac & its usually the pets, is that a recognised thing?)

If the ewes are done 3-4 weeks pre lambing like their supposed to be, what about the lambs born from the repeats as it’s 7-8 weeks before they had it, can those lambs be done younger than 3 weeks old? I know in a field of 160 lambs they were all 3-4 weeks apart from a pair which were 10 days old, they were done with Hep P and are still fine 🤷🏻‍♂️
I have no knowledge on it but I think if its 7-8 weeks from when the ewes were done it’s fine but I would like confirmation of someone with more experience before telling someone to jab a big number young

If you jab lambs from vaccinated ewes at under 3 weeks of age, then it is supposed to bugger up the antibody response so that they aren’t protected at all. That’s why it says to inject from 3 weeks of age.

Plenty of people use Heptavac for all their lambs, from 3 weeks of age. Personally, I’ve never been in that much of a rush, but there wouldn’t be any problem doing so.
I’ve never seen any more reaction from Heptavac than from Ovivac. Crack on.

Regardless of how long before the ewe was jabbed if you know what I mean 🤷🏻‍♂️

Jabbing the ewe produces antibodies in the colostrum (or it should), so the lambs will only receive those antibodies when it takes colostrum. They don’t get anything from the ewe’s bloodstream, across the placenta, unfortunately.
If the pre-lambing vaccination promotes that antibody production, then it doesn’t matter when it was done. I’ve been told it could be 12 weeks pre-lambing (like the last of a group lambing) and be effective, but I’d imagine the vaccine companies would be hesitant to put any set times in writing…🤷‍♂️
