Lamb weigh crate for loadbars

Looking to move to digital weighing now we are going to have a proper race in new shed. And as iLivestock have released the new eWeigh interface.
What box/crate are people using on their loadbars?
Don’t think I can stretch to a combi clamp. Unless I can find a second hand one.

I use a Rancher Gripper, which is similar but cheaper than a combi clamp and is also useful for dagging, bolusing etc. Only one loadbar and weights can show a bit of variation. Tricky to get it stable, the way the base is. My lambs can be a bit reluctant to run in to it and, as it's open-fronted and they are held by their sides, that can be a bit tricky. I usually set it up with a Rappa dropper gate just in front of it. If I was weighing hundreds regularly, I think I would be investing in a specialist weigh crate.

Combi clamp is a great bit of kit, but if it's primarily weighing you're thinking about that's the 1 thing a combi clamp is poor for. Just not accurate/ consistent enough, so don't feel you're missing out there.
Personally I'd be after 1 of the drafting weigh crates for a fixed handling system.

Don't rule out a Combi Clamp - they're amazing and so useful for so many jobs. A Prattley 3 way manual crate would set you back £2.7k +VAT and could only be used for weighing. If you did go for a Combi Clamp (or similar) you could also use it for worming, dagging, tagging, etc.

What do you have at present?

Well currently we have a basic IAE weigh crate that we take to where ever we are weighing lambs, and use my home made rappa style mobile race for drenching etc

Now with shed going up at home want something more permanent in it. will be weighing around 400 lambs a year. Also we sponge and PMSG all our early lambing ewes so was thinking this is something that could be done in a combi clamp?

How about just converting the IAE crate to digital. That’s what over done and it’s Bluetooth and links to my tablet for basic recording.

Very easy and cheap to do.

I had thought about doing that. but the new iLivestock eWeigh interface only works with Loadbars.

Am i right in thinking that the combi clamp weighs everything including the operator? So you would tare the weight once your stood on it?

If you move your current crate around you won’t want a combi clamp for weighing, find someone local to you and ask if you can have a look at it, then try and move it!!!

We only move ours round at the moment as we don’t have a hard standing/yard to set anything up in.

Correct on weighing operator too on combi. And yes you zero whilst stood on. Dont get me wrong, the combi clamp is brilliant, (Inc I would think sponging) just accurate weighing is it's short coming. There's threads on here with ref to this so it's not just me. It's a shame because it's great to be able to weigh whilst doing all other jobs in 1 pass as it were, but for picking lambs, I run them through a standard digitally converted weigh crate for accuracy.
