picked up what I thought was a dead lamb earlier. Crows were pecking at it as pulled up on the quad. They have punctured his eye but not removed it. I gave him glucose, tubed him and put him in the hot box. He is now walking about and lively. I’ve only just noticed as I tried to bottle feed him that about a quarter of his tongue has been pecked off. Will he get over it?

It’s quite frustrating as he’s a big lamb and full of beans.

Crows are miserable barstewards that’s for sure.

I saw 4-5 setting about a ewe lambing once. They were pecking the lamb before it was even fully out of the ewe. I chased them off but they were soon back. Luckily the ewe was up by then.

Horrible things.

Good luck. Lost a ewe last week to them. I am trying to trap them, but having cleared up the magpies not having much luck with the crows yet. Caught 2 only. Last year I caught a lot (50+) really easily, not sure what's different, they just don't seem that territorial yet, maybe too early.

Try and see if he will suck a bottle or his mum and make sure he is actually getting some milk. If not then there is no hope for him :(
some will and some won't with that much of a tongue missing. Horrible things crows.

I've had a couple with bits of tongue missing, and because of this they were cud spillers when older and wasted away sadly

Just a quick update on “Blinky” the lamb.

Today he looks much more comfortable and I used a different length teat to bottle him. I normally use silicone baby teats (as they’re cheaper ) but he couldn’t suck it properly. On a normal lamb teat he went like a train!

Fingers crossed he’ll make it as he’s been a little trooper so far :)

Good news! (y) Might it be worth repeating the Betamox in a couple of days? I remember an old vet saying its not always the injuries that crows cause that will kill a lamb it's the septicaemia/blood poisoning.

I have a lamb here that has a chunk of it's tongue missing due to Ravens. It started off slevering milk out the side of it's mouth but then fed better. Will watch and see.

Your lucky, this triplet lamb was still alive walking around when I got to it, no intestines left inside!
