It really is a different world down in the tropics. We're not very high up here but my lambing paddocks that have been shut up since the end of November and they have only the odd green shoot on as yet.

Bet you have more grass come July than I do though!

It's been dry here but grass is growing well. Will give it a lick of N soon.

If you're lambing on that sort of grass in February, you're lambs should all be gone by July, so you won't need much.;)

True. Just want the ewe lambs grown on well as well and not having to feed haylage like I was in august last year. Burnt to a crisp!!

Daughter already picking out her show sheep for this year. Very much in love with this little ewe lamb.

Our bad day today!

Due to start lambing 1st March.

Big single today aborted her lamb for no reason, she's fine and lamb was small so she was still few weeks off at least!

Had 3 triplets with TLD and 2 have been ok last day and back eating with the others outside yet one mule wasn't responding to anything and no appetite at all.
Went for evening feeding a while ago and she aborted 3 massive lambs. All would of passed as singles tbh!!!

Never good but upside is she is better now and came to eat tonight!!!

Just wondering, would anyone on here look to getting a pet lamb from someone for a ewe who had TLD to raise or just leave her to recover???

She has a big bag but no milk on her atm!

If she had recovered fully, cast her lambs but wanted them and was milking I probably would source 1 or 2 for her...

If she's not milking I wouldn't bother.

I've not posted on this topic to date, haven't had the heart. But we have had a really rubbish lambing. Very down about it, and just glad it's nearly over for us.

Approx 35-40% of our ewes have aborted and having sent a lot of aborted lambs in and taken bloods from ewes the answer was toxoplasmosis. I will vaccinate everything next year with toxovac, and am tempted to do enzootic as well although they did not show it. I just can't face another lambing like this. It really takes a big toll.

Building up from 11 ewes a couple of years ago now have 45 and we had hoped this year would see a real big expansion again. We had first abortions just before Christmas and it was painful to know since then that there was nothing we could do and would just keep losing them.

Wow I'm really sorry. Know that you are not alone, most of us have had heartbreaking, depressing lambings. Just try and focus on the lambs that are alive, and try to take time watching them skipping around, somehow it makes it a bit easier.

Really hate to hear this [emoji22][emoji22]

None of us wish to experience!

About 4 years ago we had really bad outbreak of Enzo and lost about 60% of our lambs!

Thanks @neilo, Appreciate the reply. I use Nz Suffolks on welsh ewes that gives a nice balance on fat lambs and ewe lambs for replacements but still searching for a tup to cross with the NZ suf X welsh ewes. This year used a berrichion over black faced ewes but not sure about him as he a nightmare to keep in way worse than any welsh ewe we have had and plenty of ewes empty even though he covered them(only still with us as i injected him for scab before scanning  . Hes probably a one of but its left a bitter taste for the breed now. So next year might be looking for a thick skinned Charolais to cover them.

Very sorry to hear about this. At least you now have the answer and can take positive steps in the future. Best wishes.

You haven't got grass? :0
We're on 4-6inch all over and they were only rested 4-5weeks. Twin Ewes are putting more weight on by the day and are only on grass and 1 lick bucket per 20. and have only been on grass 10-12days, due to start 5th march
