Lambing Shed Camera Options

We've got Farmstream static WiFi, and cheap £25 TP Link Tapo pan/tilt. Neither have optical zoom but we only have small sheds, being able to centre the IR with the pan tilt is a big advantage over the static.
As @neilo says, it's a huge plus to be able to check without getting out of bed, back to sleep in 5 minutes instead of changing getting wet/cold. We have some skittish ewes as well which stop what they're doing when you're in the shed so watching remotely you can pick up early stages better without disturbing them. Been able to crack on with hedgelaying and check as well now we're nearly done
Get an IR floodlight for better illumination as it really does help a lot.

Bought a cheap 1 off Amazon which was basically an unbranded livestockeye one after someone on Facebook peeled back the stickers. Works well on the WiFi.
@spin cycle not all of us have sheds on the yard, mine is 900 metres away, I can go off bolusing/fluking or lambing etc a few mile away and glance at the camera every few hours or get the wife to 👍🏻

Having read various threads on here last year, I spoke to David Flatman at StockCam. He was v helpful and I bought a single PTZ with its own router. I’m v happy with the setup, amazing detail.
David is a star!! The cameras are excellent and he gives fantastic support. I have two PTZ calving cameras and am considering security CCTV too. I wouldn't look anywhere else.

Can’t really help you much but a few weeks ago I bought a farmstream 360 camera and found it’s been handy so far but not great it’s been in the middle of a shed and can see the sheep well but there’s simply too many to look at it’s just starting to come into its own now we have about 100 left and should be good for looking at a few cows calving etc. It cost £270 with £8.50 a month SIM card
I have a farmers eye system it is fantastic and wasn't alot of money compared to other ones

We're thinking about putting cameras into our sheds, one shed is 20m away from the farmhouse and another is 10m in a different direction. To get wifi into the sheds do I need something like this.........
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09C5F1...9Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=
Something like that.would do Its a 5 ghz Make sure the kit ( camera / phone etc ) you want to use the WiFi works on that. Some is single band 2.4ghz
Explaination here --

2.4 GHz vs. 5 GHz: Which frequency should you choose?

A 2.4 GHz connection travels farther at lower speeds, while 5 GHz frequencies provide faster speeds at shorter range. Your choice of 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz will depend on where and how you use your WiFi connection most.

I get stuff from Solwise https://www.solwise.co.uk/wireless-outdoor-bridging-el-ens202ext.html

Support boys are very good which is an advantage over amazon

David Flatman , https://www.stockcam.co.uk/ mentioned above is not far from you, have a chat with him

I use an external access point which helps, as it is on top of a chimey and gives me good yard coverage.

My one old camera was giving problems, and I spent a few quid on an antenna on a 2-3m cable, so I could get it up and away from the shed, which made a huge difference. Antenna then all but mounted on the roof .

Just posted on the other Lambing Camera thread, Livestock Eye 4g 360 here now 😃 No need for wifi faffing about, this thing works great. And can hotspot itself to other cameras ( we just need one for a small lambing shed). So your main camera is 4g, Camera 1 or whatever name you give it. The guy at LE said all the cameras do wifi so they can link to the app through the main/4g camera. The 4g ones just have extra circuitry in them to broadcast off a SIM.
Cost us just under £300+vat. Friend paid a firm £900 for essentially the same 😲, worth doing it yourself, not difficult. LE send easy to follow instructions.

Apologies for resurrecting this old thread - but now lambing is over - I felt I should thank you all for posting your views on camera options.

I went for a cheap JideTech 20x PZT (£185+VAT), mounted centrally at the apex of the barn. Picture quality is superb – day or night.

I didn’t find it very useful when the barn was full or when lambing was in full swing, it was just too easy to miss things.

But it 100% paid for itself during the last week or so – absolutely wonderful to stay indoors and have a quick check on the laptop.

I would say its biggest weakness is “checking” ewes below the camera, the vertical down perspective makes it difficult to know if something less obvious is going on….

Also to save time pre-set locations are essential, scanning about manually takes ages.

Its powered down now – my hope is it switches back on for next season.

Thanks again for your views – very helpful in making an installation choice.
