Land Legend 40HP Donfeng vs Ford 7610

Hello, does anyone have any realife experience of the Donfeng tractors from China (established 1952), imported as Land Legend by Sid / Cowling Agri (4WD, loader,4-in-1 bucket and a range of good value trailer/accessories ready to ship)? I've spoken to a few dealers who say they are actualy good, strong and reliable compacts, and (suprisingly) hold their value reaosnably well, but prone to rust on the underside (exposed cabling). Does anyone else have experience of the above? For the same price I have also been offered a 1984 Ford 7610 II with loader, but a bit big for our 12 acres smallholding, and concerned re manuovreability/usability (my wife will also be operating it, and there are alot of tight spaces) and age/repairs... Thanks very much [It for a 12 acres compact mixed site, to use alongside a minidigger, to help with land reclamation and building works].

I'd take the Ford over any imported Chinese product. Despite being nearly 40 years old, they were a high quality product from the start, every agri engineer in the country will know how to fix it and there's an extremely good supply of genuine and re-man parts available.

I doubt there will be many Dongfengs still operating in 2037.

My vote goes to the 7610. Bit biased admittedly. Small tractor in this day and age. Value increasing rapidly. Simple, no electrics to speak of. Plenty of parts available from NH and other places. Loads of Facebook pages for help and advice. Mine did 7000 hours before being traded in. 7810 heading towards 12,000 hours. No major issues with either. Look over it well though.....1984 is a long time ago. The first owner will have serviced it regularly. The second owner might have cared for it a bit........the forth owner.... 🤔

Defconfeng...........🤷‍♂️

unfortunately, a dealer will always say they have a good product, so you are right to post here looking for information from users.

The two tractors however are not comparable. If you want a compact, compare with a compact jd, kubota, iseki, kioti etc. I have no knowledge of these, but would have thought you have more choice and better spares availability.

A few examples

I think this is Japanese. Shibaura or something like that.

The Ford will be boss of whatever job you gave it. Get your wife to try it too & be worth more in a couple of years.. The Chinese one........ On the other hand.... Might melt away

That's no surprise. You'd be paying for their Xmas. Best thing since sliced bread.

I'd have the 7610

You're not comparing apples with apples.
The Ford is a proper farm tractor. The land legend is a toy. It will devalue by half overnight. And in a few years will be worth little more than scrap value.
£10k is a pretty healthy budget. There are plenty of larger compacts around from mainstream brands that would be far better value

One of my neighbours has a Chinese tractor and loader, blue in colour, presumably a Land Legend. The loader doesn't easily demount from the tractor, nor the bucket from the loader without knocking out the pins. I haven't had such a primitive loader tractor since the seventies. The neighbour is happy with it, although it's only used for pony paddock duties.
