Land Rover defender 90

I have a 1996 Land Rover defender 90 county hard top that has just failed the mot.

It has done 88,000 genuine miles from new.

Reason for mot failure is welding on chassis, fuel tank leak and shock absorbers. Other than that in very good condition.

Can someone give me a rough price on what it might be worth as I’m thinking of changing for a pickup and don’t know what to ask for.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Give it a good clean
and stick it on ebay maybe?

Good market for projects on ebay!
I would hazard a guess 2-3k

I will definitely give it a clean before taking another picture.

I have never tried to sell anything on eBay but will give it a go. Thanks for the advice.

If you can show some history(paperwork) that the mileage is genuine etc
should help it sell .
Don't forget to put a sensible reserve on it.Good luck

Make out you want a new pickup at dealer and get them to value your part ex, that will give you the lower value of it. Never know they might surprise you and have a suitable pick up!!

I drive the 200tdi version of that and paid 4k with mot and their were plenty in ok condition for 2 to 5k. Welding is the killer with defenders. .. can easily spend 2k if you have to chase rust

We know the mot tester well so he had a good look under old faithful and said a welder would do the job for £500-750, so I can’t imagine it’s too bad under there.

We would fix it up in a heartbeat, nothing better to pull a 12ft ifor cattle trailer in my opinion and it would do us for another 7 years. But with the kids growing up and wanting to go down the market, a three seater isn’t practical anymore unfortunately.

Don't sell it in its current condition. Get the welding and leak sorted, or you will get a very low price...

Reason I say this, is because I paid 3k for a 1997 tdi with full mot as my daily drive..

Treat any one on eBay as if they aren’t going to turn up and they want it for nothing. Otherwise you’ll be very disappointed. It’s great for selling things if you don’t want top money. A lot of people mess around on there.

I don't think it will be worth under 2.5k , you might get 3k as it is as genuine ones that look tidy and haven't been piddled on with are hard to find even if they need work.
I saw one on e bay get bid to 1600 that wasn't complete and had stood for a decade, think no engine?
I paid 3600 for a 300TDI and that was as cheap as I could get for a non messed with type.
