Land-rover discovery td5

That 4.2 was so understressed and they had a bit of weight about them and a lot less overhang than a pickup. Liked a drink mind.
if you can get a 24 valve with manual box they are very efficient. the autos, 12 valves and FTE (100 series) not so much. my 80 does the same mpg as my 2015 hilux, and is actually better than the lux when towing

I can believe when towing 80 could be better I'd have thought hilux be better empty by a bit though (my hilux is pre dpf if that makes any difference).

They do need a tri axle behind them to go fast a short landrover. A discovery frightens me also as does most newer motors. Have an old td5 90 and a 8 year old hilux at moment. Is your isuzu a 2.5 or 1.9?
It’s a 2020 1.9 so still under warranty which makes me feel better but he does pull really well I’ve never used it three axle trailer. The 90s were100 or 120 horsepower a 300 and td5 something like that. Isuzu is 160 . The discovery was excellent but totally unrunnable.

probable would be on long journey, mine is dpf deleted, get about 24 mpg from both running around local. hilux says 27 but the speedo is 10% out, cruiser speedo is bang on with it on 33s

the newest isuzu is a much better looking truck than the new hilux but only very slightly cheaper for a 1.9 vs a 2.8, you pays your money and takes your choice...

I think dash mpg is worked out from speed and throttle position so you can actually make it seem a lot better/worse depending on how you drive. Mines mid 20s running local 95% of the time. Get some motorway miles and it'll do mid 30s. End of the day you can't have it all ways round with a work truck.

i work mine out from odo using a calculator, but need to take into account the speedo error to be accurate as the odo is saying ive gone 10% further than i actually have due to the calibration on the hilux (same with the mpg readout) . ive never got much above 30mpg anywhere. cruiser tops out at about 28mpg on a run

Discovery 3 auto is totally different to the td5 pulls like a train always in the right gear and seriously comfy. Buy a lowmilage commercial and have a large capacity boot and low tax. If something breaks fix it and remember how little the car actually cost and that depreciation is nill. Not too bad on fuel and tight turning circle too.

only takes 1 breakdown and your better off buying a cruiser. even a handbrake is £1k on a d3. £40 on an 80.

Thats quite surprising, they seem a lot bigger, though tbh if you could cope with a single cab youd be looking at something else anyway. think the bigger issue would be the lack of permanent 4wd, lhd and being petrol fuelled.

I agree but LHD isn't an issue... Local McDonalds you just reverse round in a Wrangler. The rest of it's a doddle

Like I said LC and budget version a 3.0 CRD WK Jeep
