Land-rover discovery td5

Look at the civil engineering types, if it’s not a flatbed lorry, or a tranny it’s a LandCrusier pulling that mini digger.

It used to be a Nissan Patrol, but those days have gone too.

What is a commercial Shogun like I fancied one when my disco four blew up but ended up with a pick up.
exactly the same as an ordinary shogun apart from you can be fairly sure the commercial will have been ragged to death since day 1. good vehicles though, 10 times better built than the L200.

Thats what I like about our defender, if it needs a chassis it can get one. Just a big lego set, apart from the electric stuff added to the engine.
Each to there own, I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole after that experience. That was far from the only thing wrong with it. Had new engine, clutch, the entire braking system, side steps rusted off at 2 and a half years old, none of the door seals would stay on, diff was leaking oil when it was collected from the showroom, it didn't have enough power for heavy towing, and it's the most uncomfortable thing you can buy. This was all before 40k miles from new, including the chassis. None of this was warranteed, though on top of this it did go back to the dealer at least a dozen times for various things while it was still under warranty.

I bought mine 5 years ago 245000miles, knew the history, is a 2008 model so last of the line and had the newer oil pump. Another bought new by the same company at the same time has had an engine at 250000 miles last year, I don't think it has had any other real problems. Mine has been a bolloclks for suspension but then it does do a fair share of heavy towing, but most towing is done with the 110 defender here. I don't hold back its a work truck here can be round fields full of crap etc its a work vehicle. I cant see anything to replace it with so watching this thread closely.

if its for heavy towing get a 80 or 100 series. night and day to a defender. only trouble is they are getting long in the tooth now, which is why ive went for a hilux this time rather than adding another cruiser. the old cruisers will still do all my heavy towing though.

What age is old? Anything before 2005 has been welded here, maybe it's the salt on the roads
