Land-rover discovery td5

What age is old? Anything before 2005 has been welded here, maybe it's the salt on the roads
80s are 1990-1997, 100s are 1998 to 2007. They don't suffer with rust but most are of an age where if they haven't had some form of rust prevention at some point in their life they will have problems. Mechanically wise they will last forever. There are 1HD-FT and FTE trucks in Australia with 3 million Kms and no rebuilds. new injectors every 1.2 million km, and front axle rebuilds every 250k miles ish (on the 80/105 series)
The 12 valve (1HD-T) isn't quite as sought after as it needs big end bearing done at about 200-250k miles. Sorry for mixed units 😂

If all the jokers hadn't decided a defender wasn't so bloody cool it would be a lot easier. A small wagon looks a better option nowadays with a lift off box. Then tractor round home
ill never understand why some people think defenders are so good for towing. they just arent.

D3/4, LC80, LC90, LC95, LC100, LC105, LC120, LC150, LC200, shogun, nissan patrol are all better. some of the new generation pickups would be too i imagine.

LandCruiser...

Cross ref the part numbers... for everything bar possibly the motor and order from US/Aus. None of this I'm hard done by - mickey mouse repair is going to cost ££££s I bought it when yee wete knee high to grass chopper sh!t...

Budget version Grand Cherokee WK 3.0.. Use it - kill it break it up and sell it for bits - buy another.

On a 90 - Low geared, jack knife them to get into anywhere, no great big over hang over back axle, coil sprung all round unlike many pick ups that chatter your teeth. Land cruisers and patrols were in a different price league to a landrover once upon a time.
yes once upon a time, but now they arent so whats not to like? ive never struggled getting in anywhere with my 80s tbh. uses less diesel than my defender did when towing too

if you cant get a cruiser in then not sure what use a wagon or tractor would be

They are all too dear now. A sub 7 year old landcruiser is 30k as is a defender hence my previous comment about a little truck and a tractor and a quad for 30k better money spent imo

true enough. trouble is you still need a 4x4 either way. i know which id rather have for 30k between a cruiser and defender

At 30k It would be a Ram or GMC Sierra you could tonk the f**k out of it and there would be a line-up of nesbits to buy it at top dollar.

I have ran two 90 Land Rovers for towing three and a half tone 90% of the time needed a bloody good road to get above 50 mph .until backache decided there were uncomfortable things . so I bought a discovery four which towed tremendously well but running costs I was frightened of it and then it proved it’s point and snapped the crankshaft. so I bought an automatic Isuzu pick up and it tows miles better than the 90 Land Rovers did .

Single Cab Ram no bigger than aLC. Been there. Horse for Courses.
Thats quite surprising, they seem a lot bigger, though tbh if you could cope with a single cab youd be looking at something else anyway. think the bigger issue would be the lack of permanent 4wd, lhd and being petrol fuelled.

They do need a tri axle behind them to go fast a short landrover. A discovery frightens me also as does most newer motors. Have an old td5 90 and a 8 year old hilux at moment. Is your isuzu a 2.5 or 1.9?
