Crown estate want tenants to plant trees, buy they want to keep the carbon credits

As I understood it the royal family owns the crown estate but there is agreement with the government that they run it for a tiny lump sum.
Not that it matters surely it's a matter of how good is your tenancy when the landlord can do something else with the land your suppose to be renting....

What’s the problem? They do own the land at the end of the day and the tenants are lucky to be farming there.

I would counter that the crown are lucky they have good tenants
The future subsidy payments are going to be linked to carbon offset etc, so are you happy for the state to collect it rather than the farmers?

The crown estate in scotland is entirely seperate from the english one and is owned by scotland

If anyone thinks the government of any country will let the peasants keep the carbon credits, they're deluded. I remeber it being a bone of contention with a kiwi farmer I was staying with nearly twenty years ago, " we manage the trees but the goverment own the credits".
