Large sheep rolls/nuggets.

I was going to order the larger rolls for the ewes this year, as could feed on ground as its been so dry, also with 400 in the shed, l was going to feed it on top of there silage, does this work ok? As usually feed it separate ,then gave then silage or haylage after they have f inishied it.??

Feeding rolls on top of shed floor this year, working great no troughs to turn up or trip over. Using slightly more straw but it could be the year. They need to be high quality rolls though not broken and dusty

I only lamb a couple of hundred pedigree ewes indoors, but they have always been fed with rolls on the bedding, thrown in with a bucket from a central raised feed rack from when the previous tenant had cattle. It’s so quick and easy, and you can’t find any remnants of cake if you search on your knees 20 minutes later. The system is quite literally ‘bucket and chuck it’.
I’ve tried doing the same with nuts, but found more uneaten in the bedding.

I have been feeding rolls on the floor, indoors and out, for over 30 years (admittedly far fewer fed these days), and have never had a ewe choke on one yet.
