Large Sockets and Spanners

Realised yesterday I have a poor selection of large sockets especially impact and spanner’s over 32mm. I have a number of large nuts to remove and the only thing I have is a big adjustable. Not even a spanner over 32mm. I have a 3/4 inch Milwaukee so after 3/4“ sockets.

What do you guys recommend? Everyone talks about Snap-on but as far as I know, they are ridiculously expensive and you can’t simply order online like the other brands.

I mentioned spanner’s and the reason for that is, sometimes you can’t get a socket onto a nut but you could get a spanner. Should I just stick to an adjustable?

Suggestions and links are welcome.

I've got some cheapy 1" sockets off Amazon. They're deep so match the leg length on the torque multiplier too. Use a 3/4" to 1" converter for the whacky gun but you lose some whack.

Always liked Teng tools, think Screwfix carry them. For large sizes I used to just buy cheap and have an extra spare for when it broke, didn't think it warranted a large investment for sizes that got limited use. Simple ply storage box for them and done.

I got a Hilka set of combination spanners up to about 52mm, was only about £60.
As has been said they won't get used often, but will be a Godsend wen you need them.

I bought a Kamasa 3/4“ socket set from my local agricultural suppliers for about £100 ten or more years ago, it’s been fine for anything I’ve asked it to do. Amazon reckons they are nearer £200 now but still probably a reasonable buy. Can’t help on spanners, when I found I needed a large size I relied on Ebay to buy one offs but looked for names I recognised.

I bought a Senator set of 3/4 sockets and ratchet/ bar ect. think they go to 50mm very handy to have in the van. I chose them mainly because they came in a very good strong plastic case which is a bonus in a van

In all honesty I would love to go full Wera but haven't been able to justify it.

Buy the cheapest set of decent looking 3/4 impact sockets, never mind the brand. For the abuse they take, as far as I can gather and also in my experience, breaking sockets is surprisingly rare, even very cheap ones
I agree I bought a cheap 3/4 set forty years ago never broke one yet also with the spanners when they get that big they are pretty tough

The bigger the nuts are, the less important the tolerance is. A spanner half a mm out on a 42mm nut won’t slip, different story on a 10mm nut. Also a 10mm rounded nut will often be more of an issue than the larger sizes as more often than not they will be hard to get at.

I tend to buy better quality on the smaller tools, as they get bigger then the brand to me is less important.

this, exactly, I was just going to say!

I have a cheap jumbo spanner set 36-52mm, everything 32mm and below is branded - beta, facom, etc
I'd also buy a quality 3/4" socket set just for the ratchet. Yes you can usually get away with welding up a broken 3/4" ratchet, but it's far handier having a big ratchet you can trust on a cheater bar... probably get away with sealey or clarke set for low use, mind...

Britool 1/2 drive sockets up to 30mm. Us pro / bergen 3/4 drive up to 50mm. Need a descent breaker bar yet. Often a bargain to be had in bills tool store in Glasgow. Ex mod. Snap on 1/2 drive bar for £20.
