Hi All
Has anyone any experience with these things as sold by Portek and Spaldings? How do geese know when it's 1st feb? I never have any trouble until its out of season time and then about 300 descend on a field that's a bit too near the village and footpaths to do anything except discourage the blighters! I know I would have to be very careful with a laser.

I've got a Portek, brilliant bit of kit, pigeons, geese, cormorants and even ducks hate it, and will move as soon as it gets anywhere near them. It can be used at great distances, so can be used from the gateway or over the hedge without going across the field, but works better in low light conditions, not so effective if the sun is out.
I know you've got to "be there" to use it, but it is effective, silent and no running cost once you've bought it, unlike a banger.
After a few days of your persistence I find that they will avoid that field for a while before venturing back to it.

I have one from APM. Use it on starlings they hate it. Will scare them out of a tree 300m away does not work at that range on a bright sunny day though.

If you need one I can supply the Portek laser strike at £279, which i'm pretty confident will be a fair bit cheaper than elsewhere . PM me for more details if you need them

Not used one myself but I'm told they work well and the birds don't come back once moved on a few times

They are a LOT more powerful that the cheap lasers you get on eBay etc

£279! They've always been £400+ when I've looked anywhere!

I have a £15 eBay green laser.
Most powerful I could find.

Works well on a dull day, can move pigeons from the field to the trees, then to the next trees, then away.

Has no effect on pheasants

When all the talk of lasers for bird scaring started, I also tried a laser pointer pen on crows, it worked a treat, they used to land in their droves just before dusk, very satisfying sending them next door  £10 from Staples :D

No doubt cheap pointers work, they are doing exactly the same thing - think the advantage of the Portek type lasers is simply range

Totally on topic. Currently thinking of putting some speakers in the roof and giving the cows a full disco. Will definitely keep the starlings out the way. May give some of my staff a heart attack if I expect them to move like John Travolta.:):):)
