Laser level

have recently purchased a 13 ton excavator. Have a few projects coming of one being preparing a site for a new steading. Has anyone any recommendations on which laser level I should buy? Would also purchase a receiver for the machines boom. Would prefer to be able to do gradients but thinking it will be too expensive for all I'd use it .

I bought a CST Berger LM800 about 10 years ago and its been very good and easy to use only been let down by battery and charger. Does dual grade and a lot more and even used the standard laser detector on our dozer blade for levelling, would certainly buy again.

I've just bought a single grade Leica to replace my 12yr old mikrofin that was left on the track!! Leica seems ok so far.

I also have a dual grade Datum it's a pain & takes the huff easily, I don't recommend it at all.
All my receivers are attached to bucket mounted brackets for accuracy.

Do you have any problems with vibrations from digging with the receivers? Where abouts do you mount them on the bucket?

I bought a Topcon laser off eBay a couple of years ago, very good bit of kit and does all I need. At the moment I have a Datum machine control receiver which I've borrowed to try out see how I get on with it, think I'll be buying one.

I have 3 datum machine receivers and they're ok, I use approx 900mm of 100mm flat bar that is bolted to the top of the bucket, the receiver is clamped using small g clamps as magnets are too weak, springs are replaced with rubber dampers, never had a problem with vibration but had issues with water ingress, a latex glove fits nicely over the top when it's wet that seems to cure the problem.

Thanks for all the advice. If I want to put a 300mm slope on say a 42m shed floor or say a 200 mm slope on 30m of draining , Do I need a dual beam laser or is there ways of doing it with a single beam ?

For both of those examples you only need a single grade laser, you'd only need the dual grade if you were laying concrete that had to slope in 2 directions (say towards the front and one end of a shed)
