Late harvest

Last two years started six row barley end June/beginning July then straight onto osr. Total of 3500t cut before August. This year, no winter barley, OSR still green, some wheat dead but other areas in the same field green as grass now. I can see spring barley on gravel being first to cut, but probably not till August!

that would be our usual kind of start date, looking at social media the East of the UK is like looking at a different country this year .......... I think I know how Scottish farmers feel normally now !
Been finished in August ONCE, and that was on a large area. Generally HERE get started wheat about the 20th of August, but I don't grow a huge area of spring malting barley which clashes with earlier wheat varieties.spring oats about 20th September depending on variety. Record start was wheat on the 6th August, good quality wheat but not a lot of it. W. Barley generally late july/early Aug.

didnt realise rape oil was classed as an essential oil in biblical terms (good ole spellchecker?) first chuckle of the day

Weather will dictate when we start and finish as it always does If it’s hot in July most crops will ripen quickly and it will just about all be over in August

I don't think we will be any earlier than normal here, possibly even late. Only WW, SW and S Barley to cut. Normal start date on WW is here 6th August (its uncanny how often has been over the last 20 years or so).

Surprisingly YES, as in Yellow Rust in ear, Skyfall, comprehensive fungicide program. Not that many grain sites infected...yet!!

We need to be early so we can cultivate and allow 2 months weathering on the clay to get a seedbed.

Will be an early harvest here, winter barley on Monday I reckon then straight into rape. Good opportunity to drill rape early and get a decent amount of catch crops in the ground before winter crops.
