Latest news on livestock EID proposals - is the majority of the industry "in complete agreement"?

I meant what I said. Computers and other data capture gadgets (tag scanners etc) make "paperwork" easier. If you can't use a computer there is some additional learning obviously. But once you learn, it makes things easier.
Generally I’d agree but I’m not buying a stick and a computer programme for my few animals

Fact . Market I consigned to had two ladies checking every pen of sheep by eye and writing down the ear tag numbers Saturday as there was a malfunction with the EiD wand .........

I've checked a lot of sheep records in the past. The vast majority were paper based. Of the few that had computerised records, about 1 in 5 actually knew how to use the software to show the required records. More often than not, the software was full of erroneous information entered by the user. Garbage in, garbage out.
Well I have little idea what most on this thread are talking about but if only 20% of the more forward thinking among us can work this thing imagine the chaos if they make the rest of us use it.

Perhaps the idea is that you don't buy a stick perhaps the idea is you sell your stock.
It will certainly help the big finishers, they just want someone else to pay for it.
Perhaps that is why the nfu support it

And for those who can’t get their head around this complex technology?
Use paper. Unless they can't read which I've come across quite often. They obviously use friends/family or pay somebody.

Somehow it's been suggested that I think people should be made to use IT. I'm not. I'm saying it makes things easier. Nobody made people use tractors instead of horses. But you don't see many horses working any more. Some things are just better at getting a task done.

Product/software support.
Trouble is that costs money and time phoning to get sorted , not so bad if that info is remembered or written down for next time i guess, for some it might be in one ear out the other ie only possible to do that part when speaking to the support person iyswim.

If the new software is any good it might help uptake but I suspect the only way you will get mass take up is by forcing people to use it.
This post is what possibly makes some think you have said folk should be made to use IT, must admit that’s what I thought you’d said although on re reading it i can see that’s a misunderstanding

The ARAMS system in place at the minute is used by 1 in 100 sheep/goat farmers at most. Those that persevere get on well with it. But most give up on 1st contact. If you read Gov websites it's clear that the expectation was/is that most would use the ARAMS system with only a few exceptions using paper licenses.

Just wondering how many Welsh sheep farmers use EID Cymru online?
I had a look at it and decided to stay with paper.
I converted my accounts to computer 30 years ago.
