Again not ideal but heat will help, a rose head on the oxy/acet torch would warm it up enough to make it more easily talked to.
That's only of its something you only need to bend now and again.

collecting this tomorrow. [emoji123] looking forward to stripping out all the outdated bits and adding in new tech to bring it up to date. Keeping the servo drives as they can’t be beaten for reliability and power. It’s a kodiak Avon cnc turret mill. (Bridgeport copy but then isn’t every thing) Any one had one?

Good evening, new here so do point me in the right direction if this is the wrong place (great thread by the way!). I’m looking for a bit of advice, we’re a mixed farm and we had a small fabrication shop that I started when I was younger and has grown. I am looking for a press brake, we have one currently I made 10yrs ago for bending thin galv sheeting, but it’s basic and slow. So I’m looking to upgrade to a proper one but I don’t have any idea what size/tonnage I need as I don’t know what tonnage my homemade one genuinely is other than the calculated ram capacity. Ideally I’d like to able to bend 10mm plate up to 1.25m wide but am realistic that may be quite an ask. What sorta steel capacity would this eBay gem give for instance? Thanks in advance.

I'm a bit late to the party but thought this may be useful. View attachment bendingchart.pdf

Write your reply...Sometimes you're just lucky... i got a message from a friend back in early september saying that the uni in Aberdeen was selling some of its tools and i might get a bargain. as i was headed off up here to iceland i never really did much about it, got some pictures sent through and the only thing that looked of interest was the lathe, but as i'd have to shift the other stuff too (job lot) i left it... Then a in late january, a week before i was going home to tidy up some things i got another message from the guy saying that they had got rid of all the machines other than the lathe, as.... it had no chuck guard and they thought it was dangerous and didn't want to sell it, it had to get scrapped! so when i got home i borrowed a pickup and trailer and went and got it... a metric Colchester with next to no wear on it! worth a fair bit if you had to go out and buy it!

Anybody who's everybody in the machine world on the far side seems to have one of these on their mill (thanks to the tube:rolleyes:) and so ive always had a graw for one, you know, so i could hang out with the big boys like, but when you'd price it up new you'd come away with the conclusion that your own vice is a great one...

But id always be doing my best impression of a fox and sleep with one eye open all the same,
and then one day,
i found one that wasn't made out of gold, its not far off its birthday with a little bit of damage to the two jaws where someone crashed it in a cnc mill but its plenty good for what i need it to do.
after a few runs with it i can see what all the fuss is about now.
the vice i had in the background is a fairly tight vice but this kurt is on another level, suffice as to say im right n chuffed with my find so i thought id show it off here. :playful:

Yep, them Kurt's are beasts - you don't know just how good they are until you use them! I just wish I could justify one!

Can you reveal how much you paid for it? I would love one, along with a rotary table.

ive been sitting tight for a yr or two keeping an eye on auctions, that's the first one i seen come up but good things come to those who wait i do say.
the longest i waited for a certain item to appear was nearly four years but i got it in the end.
the fact that you can move about the jaws to hold larger jobs was what enticed me more than anything, the likes of the 6" vice in the background even tho its a decent vice is very limited to the jaw opening.

As for price Kevm, its no odds really as im not planning on taking over the world and this one is here to stay, the next person to sell it on ill probably be the wife or some of the kids..., sitting here its costing me about £340 which id be a snip compared to a new price.
i got a nearly unused vertex 10" rotary table years ago for £120, a handy tool in the arsenal but tbh when it comes to a mill, youl never be done buying stuff for it, its the polar opposite to the lathe when it comes to tooling.

the only downside i see is that the older stuff is starting to thin out now, you dont see as much of it come up as often any more, its there ok but not just in the quantities it used to be, I think at least.
