Lawn tractor question - Stiga Estate 3398HW

Hello,

We have a field of mostly grass that was let go for a few years. Last week it was topped and I would like to mow it short for awhile to get rid of some of the weeds that were moving in. Eventually we plan on seeding in some wildflowers and maintaining it as a wildflower meadow that's mowed a few times per season. My question is whether I can use the mower I have on the field as it is now. I have a Stiga Estate 3398HW Tractor Mower, the grass is mostly about 4-5 inches with sporadic higher bits. There's some thatch on the ground, and dried cuttings from the topping strewn about. I've uploaded a photo of the field, do you think the Stiga is alright for the job? Thanks very much.

I've decided to go for a Honda mower after all. Had a close look at one and they are mint.

I have a Mountfield with a Briggs Copy at one house... I abuse the f**k of it.... Root busting levelling all sorts of out of season plants and another at the other house , I forget its make with a Briggs on it that punches above its weight.

So you have a field, sorry lawn which has gone wild and now is full of weeds. You are hoping to bring it back under control and grow some wild flowers.
You do know what you are after?

the old dead clippings will cause you the most problems.
Personally I think you're asking for trouble. Give it a go. You'll soon know within about 10 feet

I have a Stiga Park mower. The knives are timed with thin notched timing belts which snap with any hard obstacle. Ok for a croquet lawn, not recommended for pioneering!
