Hi all. I posted about this earlier in the year but we could do with more responses about laying hens. Thank you to those who have taken part already!

Defra is looking to introduce a new scheme that will reward farmers for good farm animal welfare. If you're an egg producer who is achieving a high standard of welfare for your hens and/or have made changes to improve their well-being, we'd love to hear what you did and the costs/benefits to your farm. Examples could include (but are not limited to): good feather cover or a good range with outdoor features (trees, shrubs, etc.).
Participants will need to fill out an online survey and have a follow-up chat with a researcher. You'll receive a £100 One4All voucher for your time.
Message me your contact details or email our researcher Hannah at [email protected] if you're interested in getting involved. Thank you!

Does that mean the current, UK laws on welfare aren't good enough then? Surely there are already a variety of schemes already? And not run by defra.
Thanks @teslacoils, yes Defra is exploring the introduction of a voluntary payment scheme and there are others out there. Our standards are very high but many do go further than what the law requires. Defra wants to learn from those people (particularly those already in a welfare scheme) and hear what currently works for them (and what doesn't) to create something that works for as many as possible and rewards fairly.

Only applies to England I guess
