laying some tar any one got any experience ?

We have yard that is going to get tarred later this year, some work has been done already kerbs , drains etc but it cant be completed till mid summer and thereafter get the contractor in to lay the finished surface with his paver rollers etc
In the mean time its very dusty and I was considering laying the sub base tar our selves on the stoned areas , there would only around 20 ton to spread as we can spread it out and wack it down in the drain trenches etc good enough without paver and get good sealed dust free surface till the job can be completed later .
There is small area to build up a bit with sub base tar , that would be laid on top of existing tar and contractors would usually "tack coat" on overlay that i don't have access to in assume that "tack coat" just softens the existing surface to get the new tar to stick to it would a little diesel in watering can do the same ?

But I would not need more than 20 ltr its only a small area to build up . A 200 ltr Drumis a bit excessive, most is on to sub base stone so would not need tack cote on it .
I will have a look and see if anyone does 25ltr drums on line

Tack coat doesn’t soften previous layer, it’s a sticky substance that bonds the 2 coats together.

the sub base layer won’t have the same wearing properties as the top coat, so if you’re screwing trailers and forklifts about, you might end up ripping it all up

Chap across road put 20mm base down across the road from me,tractors and trailers in and out all day sometimes ,still sound.artics might well be different

If doing it yourself make sure you get the levels right or it could cost you later on. Too low will mean paying for extra wearing course, too high may mean parts have to be dug out or scabbled off. You can get 20 litre drums of the cold seal for painting joints and water it down if you can’t find any tack coat.

Does anyone know what is the cost of wearing coarse tarmac per cubic metre or per tonne please?

Be aware there are hundreds of specs for tarmac, each with its own use... eg porous for tennis courts.
