Not really a project but a question.

The photos show the end of the turnover shaft and the turnover arm / end plate removed. The slots in the end plate are fretted so it’s almost impossible to keep the end plate tight on the end of the shaft. It always seems to end up without 1/4” of slip rotationally which might not helping the turnover to succeed. Any I bought a new end plate which has taken up a lot of the slack but it’s still perceivable with the bolts finger tight so still isn’t a positive fit in the slots. Has anybody ever used epoxy liquid metal or even a gasket to “take up the slack” when it’s tightened together? It feels like it needs a biscuit tin lid sandwiched in there to take up the slight wear on the shaft end pieces that fit in the slots in the end plate. Anybody know how much torque to give the M24 metric coarse 10.9 bolts. Tables would suggest upward of 1000Nm.

we had ours built up and machined square and full length if you know what I mean i-e full-length slot and bar so far so good the problem is when they get worn the bolts snap then eventually damage is done to the plate £500 and also the other end of the turn over ram the bar that holds it will snap and that also is costly because the slot and the bar are tapered they try to force the ends off the bolt that is why we had it machined square

My brother commented they would have been better machined square. It’s pretty unimpressive to be honest. I’m going to give it a good dose of Loctite 660 “liquid metal” and tighten well up. Might prolong its life a bit.

Farmideas is interested in both the problem and the fix you have done. Another solution to add to the ideas we have featured in the magazine. Could you tell me more? Thanks! [email protected]
