Lean to build

Hi all. I am thinking about putting up a lean to. 2 questions I have:

Lean will be 20ft deep. 12ft high side to 10ft low. Is 2ft over 20ft enough fall?

Hoping for 16ft span. Are 6x3 timbers ok? Will be 8x4 rsj being used.

Thanks in advance for any help

That's a 5° slope. My experience of flattish roofs is it that they leak.

You may get away with it if you are using box profile in full lengths.

Eternit have a minimum fall of 5° but reccomend double sealing on the end laps and 300mm overlap on exposed sites.

Is it a garage? 10ft high would be very limiting these days in all honesty and seriously not very stock friendly

low pitch does not have to be a problem, especially if using European Profile, as one sheet can cover the whole span (except for the roof lights), this is a building we inherited when we moved here, and a simple construction like this is economical to put up.

Mine just takes the water away not really a problem I find it useful to keep the shed dry inside ;)

in all seriousness I would go side extension the pitch and heights your talking about are gonna make it compromised

I built exactly what your suggesting, 45long in 3 bays, 20 ft deep, 11ft low side 13ft high side. 8x4 uprights, and 7x4 rafters. 7x3 Purlins and full length box profile roof sheets. Been up 6 years now, had a good snow load to test it in 2018 and its still there.

I hate lean to’s. They aren’t as cheap as you think, you end up with a tunnel of a shed on many occasions, they are faffing about to bolt on, cutting holes in sheets etc. I prefer another shed spaced away gives a sheltered space in between and keep ventilation etc good.

Is it an actual lean to or a mono pitch building you’re planning? I made and built a mono pitch one here two years ago. 7m deep due to beams available as 14m. 8foot high at low point (to match up to a container) and nearly 13foot at highest point. Was 10degree pitch. 203*102*23 UB for rafters and columns due to easier to use same lengths and used 178*102*19 for gable posts and doorway. 7*3 perlins at full length of 4.8m as it was easier. Roof though are full length box section sheets that we had.

That's a nice shed. Wish I had the skills to make something like that
