What can you do with fieldmargin?

Map your farm
Get started and set up your farm in minutes. Import field boundaries from the RPA, allocate crops in a few clicks, invite your team and you are ready to start planning and tracking work.

Planning and tracking field work
With Field Jobs, planning, input calculation and scheduling is all in one place. Keep up-to-date and accurate records in seconds from a phone or PC.

Scouting
Record issues such pests, disease or farm maintenance using located notes with photos. This means you can resolve problems faster.

Farm records and reporting
A history of all your work and records of input use by field and across farm. Records are updated when you complete your work. No need for a separate system or hours in the farm office. Paperwork is obliterated.

Using satellite NDVI imagery for remote crop monitoring
How you can use satellite imagery with NDVI analysis to identify problem areas early and go straight to them when scouting.

fieldmargin believes that great technology should be accessible for all types of farm. It is free to get started with the app and for Cereals we are running a special offer of 4 months of Pro half price (just £15 per month!).

Its a very tidy website but does it have nearly the amount of detail required for a complex contracting business such as yours? Stock etc?

im not sure how much I need all that complexity though, the simplicity here is the attraction

if I can export to excell then I can do all the clever stuff I like

does it have no input stock management at all ? all I really need is, delivery, pricing and balances @fieldmargin

That's great to hear. Keeping the app quick and easy to use is a big focus for us.

No gatekeeper record import at the moment although you can attach gatekeeper pdfs to your new jobs which would be a quicker way of getting in your existing records without having to retype information. For historic cropping we have the concept of farm years so you can record the cropping for each year and setting cropping for each year is very quick: just select the crop and then click the fields you want to have with that crop. You can also see the field's previous cropping to help plan rotation.

We have stayed away from stock recording because it is very difficult to get right. You just need someone to miss adding a delivery or using a slightly different amount than was on the job because they are using up what's in store and your stock levels end up out of whack.

We are always working to improve the app to be more useful though and are very open to feedback. Why not drop me an email at [email protected] and we can discuss further?

stock control is certainly a challenge but critical for assurance and runnIng contract farming businesses

gatekeeper over complicates it though, I’m sure there could be far simpler ways to deal with it, would be happy to discuss as that’s about all that’s missing for a farm business like mine to be able to make the switch to what looks like a far superior set up in pretty much all other respects

Good to know. It's interesting to think about. The approach would probably have to be slightly different for a contracting business (presumably one central store with stock being used on jobs across lots of different farms) vs individual farms who only need to keep track of their own stock levels. Definitely worth having a chat about.

I run each farm as a separate business with its own delivery /invoice / stock balance

I don’t think it has to be complex - just simply a way to record delivery and then later add price to those deliveries - applications then draw against that balance that can be reported at any time

gatekeeper seriously over complicate this imo

could almost diy using your csv exports but would be a lot neater if it was all within the app

given stock innovatory is a assurance and hse and fire service requirement i think it’s essential really

Yes, you can definitely DIY a lot of that. I actually wrote a blog post a few months ago sharing how I've done this on my farm which you might find interesting. https://blog.fieldmargin.com/2020/0...crop-type-for-farm-analysis-and-benchmarking/

Built-in costings are something that we have in our roadmap once we have improved the core reporting and work tracking functionality.

Have you had a chance to have a play with the app at all?
