Led lights😠

Just a frustrated rant... Put up a new cattle shed last year. Put led strip lights in as well as 2 little led bulk head lights for night lights. The lights haven't even been running a full year yet and were of during the summer as the cattle were out. Now the cattle are back in the 2 led bulk head lights have packed in. I thought after reading about led lights they were to be the dogs rubbish and not need to be replaced very often, but after this and having ordinary bayonet led light bulbs lasting no time all in old buildings they seem to be pretty pathetic. Round up of this post is.... why are led lights crap??

As with most things in life it could be down to you get what you pay for! I have led lights that have been used every day for the past 6 years without issue.

Honestly i have always been surprised/impressed at the length of life LED lights have. is it possible that there are other problems causing your light issues? like mice nest, bird nest, wiring problems. i have a hard time believing that they would just burn out.

What manufacturer are they made by? Everyone has got pretty good at making traditional bulbs on the cheap but not so for LED....... you really need to shell out big money for good led.... look for big names such as Philips.

I'd agree though.....LED is pretty disappointing for the money involved.

If the unit fails it is often other components than the actual led.

All I know is there bloody destructive to the countryside and it's darkness farms across valley have them and really show up .

Luxxum LED are good.

Got sick of the LEDs from CEF failing . To be fair they replaced them under warranty . Been getting the Luxum ones , no failures to date

We put some LED bulbs in last year and they are really good but were quite expensive, father decided to find some cheaper ones - which are sh1te. We now have the cost of the cheaper ones and the cost of the more expensive ones to replace them.

LED is as most know is a "Light Emitting Diode" so they rarely actually burn out often a fuse ect. but like you see above, the more expensive the bulb the better results(pretty much like anything else).
But don't ya'll think that the better lighting is worth the money while they do work?

We replaced all the lights in our house ten years ago with Led , there are over 50, I honestly don’t think we have had one fail yet but they were Philips
That is tempting fate!

Had LED strips put in several buildings, 3 years ago, love the light quality, but never again... Good brand, but the sparkies swapped 2 within months, and there is another one flashing again... Flourescent there for me in future. The bad one will be swapped once more as I have a spare, never again though.

When we did the farmhouse 10 years ago, the Architect was a real LED enthusiast. He was rather surprised when he called abour 18months after us moving in, to find his fancy kitchen lighting removed, and strip lights up!! I want to see what I am doing with a sharp knife when cooking, thank you.

Since taken more out, and putting conventional bulb holders instead. Found the wee LED bulbs to be OK.... so far

Got three properties 4-500m behind the farm, all urbanites and obsessed with lights everywhere. Bloody 50 watt LED's pointing out on the horizontal.... I feel like putting an airgun pellet into the effing things. No pleasure walking there in the night anymore...

I'm gradually replacing floodlights, fluorescent battens, circular fluorescents and pendant fittings as they fail with led fittings, both in the house and in the work sheds been going for about 5 years now, so far about 30 done and only two failures to date, a floodlight that only lasted 3 years and a batten that was faulty out of the box. Mostly from Screwfix but a small number from B&Q.

Yeah they do fail.

Some more than others.

I keep picking up failed led floods from skips etc, usually it's just the chip that's failed, cheap from eBay.
If it's the power supply they're usually no more than £14.

I keep rebuilding lights people have scrapped and putting them up at home.
Just done a 200w version, needed 4 new chips, fully repaired for £13.60
