Legal Aid fraud

I'm a bit surprised about the amounts involved in this case.

A total of £12.6 million pounds of legal aid was defrauded in I think about 3 cases.

The first case involving 2 legal workers laying the ground work for the larger frauds which involved 2 immigration judges.

Do these amounts in any way seem out of the ordinary @Danllan ? I see some of the people under prosecution defended themselves for £16k but the legal representatives claimed £159K .. quite a significant difference as well as being a double payment for the work undertaken.

No surprise at all. The amounts can be staggering, they really can add up in a protracted case. Also no surprise it's centred on immigration practice, the field is riddled with crooks - almost all Asian - and that's well know throughout the Bar and by every solicitor I've discussed the matter with too. This is all with reference to London and the South East, I have no personal knowledge of elsewhere.

Now that this has broken, expect more. It has been rather like the grooming by Asian men up North, the 'authorities' have been skirting the subject because of race, meaning the fact that it's overwhelmingly Asian practitioners at it, and that it would really p!ss off the general population.

I did a wee job for a lady a couple of years back who had been involved in the grooming saga, so sickened was she by the inaction of the police that she left the UK for Ireland before she killed someone, or herself. She got really quite agitated talking about it.

This is the thing, it has ruined many lives and continues to do so. And people - meaning young girls - either weren't believed because they were 'scum', or they were believed but the believers didn't care, because the girls were 'scum'.

There are at least three more of these mass-groomings that will come out over the next few years. And, I don't doubt, there are still more that either my remaining contacts at the Bar haven't heard of, or that are yet to be discovered.
