lely cock pheasant

Looked on you tube they seem to do a good job. I know where there is a tidy one for sale which has been fitted with new belts, tyres and tines. My plan was to buy it and leave it in a 15 acre field 3 mile from home to turn the grass with. It could stay in the field all year in an old sheep hut. I know they are from a different era but what's people's thoughts on them who have used them.

Good machine in many ways, especially if you plan to leave in the 'work' position on site. They won't scatter like a modern tedder but they do make good hay by fluffing up the windrows and letting air into the swaths. Not being mounted they can be more awkward with a lot of corners and so on, and in heavy crops they can sometimes wrap grass around wheels etc. But if it's cheap enough they are a good old machine.

I had a similar machine called a Robin Hood. Cost me £30 and everyone laughed when I bought it. But that year I was the only one around here who got his hay. Awkward to use as to get it through a gateway the safest thing was to remove and remount the draw bar. But it did a good job of fluffing the hay up. It went for scrap when I couldn't get tines for it.

How much is it? I've got one I'd sell, wheels, bearings, tines, belts all in good order. Oh and it's converted to 3 point linkage so a doddle to move about (y)

Load of rubbish. If you have a light 1950's type open crop, fine, you might be happy with it. Otherwise get a Haybob for goodness' sake!

Our current one is made by fransgard and is a hell of a lot better than the volac one it replaced. Beautiful, even, well aired rows and doesn't make ropes like haybobs and acrobats. They do a good job however big the crop as long as you don't have billy whizz on the thing, good round bales start with the swath.

I think Mr Duck that you are very wrong here, having made huge amounts of hay from IRG swards dosed up with large amounts of muck and more nitrogen on the one cut than you can legally use in a year now.
The one thing , you do not really want is a mower more than 5 feet wide as the machine is designed to take 2 of the swathes.

How does it work on 3 point linkage. Thought you had to tow it to work.
I remember using one back in the 80's ,was discussing it with a old farmer today, think they were a good tool in the day. I'm using a knackered hayzip at the moment. I could be interested in yours, I'm In audlem

We took the draw bar off, moved the right angle gearbox to the centre, put a section of pto across to pulley. Then built a three point linkage to pick here up! Used original gearbox so it can still "kick" as well as flip(y) Has original tails on as well so can split into two rows.. Welcome to come have a look..
