Lely Lotus Tedders

Hi all,

I've seen a 4 rotor Lely lotus tedder with gates meaning it can row up as well as ted. What's part availability like for these now? Worried about investing in a piece of kit I can't keep going longer term. Are there any similar tedders available now new that can row up and ted like the Lely's? We have old 90's tractors that'll do 20mph tops if you're brave/mad given the state of the roads round here! So separate tedder and rake adds a fair amount of travel time making them not practical for us. I followed one of these lely's a few years ago with a conventional baler and the rows seemed OK.

Cheers

We're in the same boat, ground 15 miles away.and two of us so it makes a huge difference being able to do it all in one trip. There's no set way to use it,you have to use some trial and error between different PTO speeds and travel speeds. The tines are less hooked than a standard tedder so need to work hard to "fill" the hooks to spread wide so in a light crop drop PTO speed and travel fast or it will leave it it lines. It still dries fine but looks a bit sh!t.

We've just changed our Lely mower for that reason, that and it's was due change anyway. They say parts are no issue, but we had a bad experience and lucky pure luck got us out of trouble. When the rep was going round dealers looking for bits you knew it was bad.

If it was me I would suggest get a good tedder and a good rake. My vote is Kuhn.

Was going to buy a new one... My experience of the combi.

Delivered and went out in the field tedding, and basically, would not spread properly.
Dreadful, which I put down to inexperience, called Dealer.
Lely rep called me and explained what I needed to do to make it work, told him I could read a manual and I was actually doing all he said.
Put Haybob back on
Tried again with Lotus a day later on next cut, still awful. Spoke to Rep and was told in effect, "they all do that"....
Lotus was returned.

Went to to Robert Davies and bought a Kuhn tedder which worked.... properly, out of the box.

Yet I know folks who love the Lotus!

Thanks for the replies all. Sounds like it might not be the solution I was hoping for. Also don't fancy my chances of keeping it in one piece 😅
