The new Lely Storm P300
A few details

Lely introduces a new trailed forage harvester for grass and corn. The Lely Storm 300 can be used with a wide non-steered pick-up or a three-row maize head. Lely responds to the needs of the market segment for more capacity and easier operation with this pick-up, with a working width of 2,200mm. This forage harvester, designed with a new power belt drive line , larger pulleys & stronger belt up to 300 hp is intended for managers of larger farms and contractors in areas in which the time for grass harvesting is limited.

Camless pick-up What is unique about the Lely Storm 300 is the use of a newly developed intake in combination with a camless pick-up. This new and improved intake system delivers an exceptionally even crop flow in the direction of the conditioner wheel. This provides for greater capacity, meaning that the forage harvester has no problems with wide, bulky or uneven swaths. The pick-up follows the contour of the ground very precisely to properly pick up crops. The pick-up also has fewer moving parts; it is less prone to wear-and-tear and maintenance-friendly. Also improved feed rollers & crop press springs enable better feed to the blades.

Flexible steeringThe Lely Storm 300 is equipped with ISOBUS steering. The steering system is intuitive and easy to steer with clear buttons and a large touchscreen on the tractor.

For tractors with no ISOBUS connection, Lely has developed an E-link control panel for the Storm 300. This handy control panel has specific buttons for each function and an intuitive display.

New crop chute New on the Lely Storm 300 is the new bigger crop chute, designed for trailers with high (large) transport heights. The crop chute comes standard with 280° spout adjustment and is hydraulically adjustable and foldable.

Designed for use with grass and maize With the Lely Storm 300, you can work with both grass and maize The new pick-up can be used as standard with grass. For maize the Storm 300 can be fitted with an independent three-row, rowless maize head.

I would think it's that man from Derbyshire! But then again, maybe not. We may have something new of our own to launch at Lamma, so watch out for more details.

Regarding the comments about high cost new trailed v 2nd hand self propelled's' sure you can buy older SP's for the same sort of capital investment, but the running costs can be much higher if you are unlucky to have a major problem. The market for trailed machines is aimed squarely at those contractors and farmers who already have the big tractor. Another comparison re the pricing; if £50k+ for a new trailed machine sounds expensive, then just look a big square balers. They are a lot more than a trailed forager

A Very good comment about self propelled why have all that horse power under the shed for 350 days a year when a tractor can work every day. Also self propelled very expensive even small jobs & love a large drink every day.

There are 2x £40k self propelled's been bought around here recently. One had the main hydro pack up= £12k bill and very quickly sold afterwards, and the other had the pickup camtracks turn themselves inside out, many problems with bearings, and middle of this season the main feed roller gearbox went pop. I'm not sure of the cost, but there can't have been much change out of £8-9k, and worse than that grass was left on the ground for 2 days in which time it turned into hay.

I'd have loved a self propelled, but whatever way I look, it just doesn't doesn't stack up for us as I think its a waste of time spending anything less than £100k.

These bills just don't occur with a trailed.

So says the man who just bought a trailed
What machine did you go for?

Sorry it's a bit misleading the steering axle is the European term for hydraulic
Drawbar. A lot of changes for the better , but chopping cylinder is very similar but I believe there is no welding on the flywheel , to be confirmed .

We have a lely storm is 130p and the hydraulics see fine on that. Plenty fast enough spout and power in them. Hydraulic folding drawbar and metal detector. Works a treat unless a bearing fails on the feed rollers. Whoops!!! We shove 200hp down it and it's fine, a friend used to shove 260 hp down his and it was fine aswell so unless it's got a bigger mouth to get the grass in I think it won't be any better than the storm 130p is of now but the pick up reel does look better and more handy.
