Lely Tedders

Without going into which is the best , it is well recognised among big outfits that Lely does the business, is it not tragic then that they are no longer in production.
Can not farmers put pressure on someone to get them back in production, or are they to be lost forever

Probably only chance now if some obscure little Polish company or similar to make a copy outa monkey metal as I can't see a massive company like AGCO wanting to sell patents off to rival firms to undercut their Fella tedders market

The malone with hook tines is pretty much the same, built better and heavier I would say. They only do a 4 rotor at present I think. 6 maybe in the future but could be wrong. It’s the tine that made the lely so good at flicking the hay over.

Malone do a 6 rotar 8.4m machine. A pretty well made tedder.

Did just go and look. I think they only do the 1 size in 6 rotor don’t they. Look very well made tedders compared to some. Always thought the lely were lightly built mind.

I generally reserve the term "tragic" to describe things like death of mass disease outbreaks or a historical loss.

I had a lely tedder some years ago and wasn't that impressed if I'm honest. I've made thousands of acres of hay and haylage without one and haven't missed it a bit.

Them not being marketed any more is far from a tragedy.

Like I said I have spoken to a lot of big haylage growers who are being forced to change who are all of the same opinion that nothing teds like a Lely , but I won't argue with anyone over it .
It may not be of much importance but to a hay and haylage grower it is

It's not important to a hay or haylage grower either believe me, I've managed fine since I got rid of a lely.

There are plenty of machines that will do a fine job.

I still use a tedder, just not a lely.

Van de Lely himself wanted to concentrate exclusively on robots especially in the dairy sector.
Nothing stopping AGCO selling (if still applicable) the patents.
Anyway, Krone do fine tedders

I had a rotonde and hated it, in fact I had a Lely mower, tedder, rotonde and baler, and the baler was the only one of the 4 that I rated highly, and was the only Lely marketed machine that I stuck with.
