Off topic but does anyone know why the Irish bulls don’t rank well on the uk SCI index?

SCI, ACI and PLI are basically the same model with slightly different weighting. So different varieties of apples.

EBI, BW and SCI are all completely different fruits. Comparing a banana, apple and orange is very difficult.

The problem is that SCI uses UK data based on UK milk recording results which includes information from cows that have little or no grazing. Research in NZ and Ireland shows that cows rank in a different order depending on diet. In NZ and Ireland most cows are grazed for long periods so the results come out differently. I assume the genomic data is then correlated to the index, so still gives similar issues.

If an NZ bred heifer enters a UK grazing herd with a 5000kg average and is 5% better than the herd average she will be +250kg of milk, but is a Holstein enters a 10000kg herd and is 5% better than average it will be +500kg of milk. Therefore this immediately distorts the indexes in the UK.

I think they might not come up as well because alot are not actually registered on the system for sci, aci and pli due to cost of taking in DNA snips ect. To get there score.

they buy your e'mail address off 'companies', and then they are so cheap to send, it's probably dearer to delete you, than to keep e'mailing you. Just a bad fact of modern life.
