lifting a tractor by the lift arms

A friend of mine got his tractor stuck tonight, on a hill, against a tree. I was going to go down in the morning and pull him out with the volvo, but I dont want to pull it sideways and damage the rear hub seals, I have 6ft pallet forks, so lifting around hitch area with a timber block might do, but can I lift also via the lift arms? I just find lifting under the hitch can make a tractor wobble and I dont want the tractor to fall against the tree.

Any tips greatly appreciated.

Er I suspect no unless there able to power down which I doubt many tractors do?

This is what I thought, I never really saw anything solid in those top covers. Ill try lifting under the hitch but if that's no good I'll just drag it at an angle.

I got a tractor stuck last year and knocked the valve off which resulted in the tyre coming off the rim (pictures on here somewhere) we put a strong strap around the link arm infront of the turn buckle and lifted it out with the manitou. It went that well we then carried on up the road to the nearest farm to wash all the sh!t off the rim. No damage was done at all to the rear linkage by lifting it

Well, I got there, and just hooked a chain onto hitch and yanked it back from the tree. All sorted. No pics. If it was my tractor, Id show. but he asked me not to! I thought it was more apt for a tictoc!
