Light weight 14t root crop

We have 14t Bailey root crops are present and find the unladen weight of over 6.5t plenty enough. Maybe they are over engineered for carrying potatoes and corn as that what we use them for.
Does anyone know who would make a lighter weight root crop ? It would be better for us not to be pulling around so much dead weight and carrying more crop instead.
We have a 12.5t Norton which is still in use which is a lot lighter build but I appreciate it is not comparing like with like, but I hope you see my point.
With today’s clever Cad you would have thought trailer manufacturers could put the strength where it is required but also reduce the unladen weight.

DRT trailers might fit your bill. Just had a google and their 16t root crop trailer comes in at 5.4t. Very well made trailers, made 3 miles down the road from us. We run 2 one of which is a 16t grain trailer and can attest to the quality. Very strong trailers and don't cut corners: 420x180 Commercial ADR axles, ours are on BKT radial tires and all the usual extras possible. They'll also do pretty much any custom modifications you can dream up! Another thing is that made in East Yorkshire they produce a lot of trailers for potato work, either root crops or flats and I'd highly recommend checking out their facebook page and seeing their unique hydraulic gantry/box pusher flat trailer.

Have you looked at AW Trailers? They do an Ultima X range using Hardox which needs less supporting steel to save weight. On the spec sheet the 14 tonne version is 4.75 t unladon. We have used AW for years, including some 16 tonne Ultima X and have always found them a good company to deal with.
