I don't think the gps in a phone is accurate enough for that.

True. Smartphones don't have any EGNOS/WASS/Omnistar/Rangepoint correction signal so you're looking at at least a metre of accuracy not the 30cm that a proper light bar will have.

Ask Patchwork & the other manufacturers if they have any second hand units available. I think @Docwalters may be able to point you in the right direction.

Brisel is correct, Smartphones don';t have any correction signal and are designed to get you from A to B not to work a specific piece of ground with 20 cm accuracy.

If you try to cobble something together it may work but what if it goes wrong?
What if it lets you down and makes your work more inaccurate?
Why take the chance?

We don't have any second-hand stuff in stock sorry but for for £1000 you can buy a complete unit designed and corrected for your specific purpose.

You know the old saying, buy cheap, buy twice.

Give Andrew a ring on 01291 673366 and he will give you the SP on it all and make your life a lot easier as well as saving you time and money.
Heck, if you are doing any appreciable fert spreading the thing will pay for itself in a short time.

Was going to ask about this earlier, was looking for something to attach to the quad so I could see on short grass for spraying and applying fert, not sure I can justify £1000 though

Sorry for sounding like some sort of luddite but what sort of system will £1,000 get you?

There area a couple Android apps that I use, but I also use a Bluetooth GPS receiver as the phone/tablet gps isnt accurate enough. The apps are crude but work ok for fert etc. The apps were around £3 I think, and the Gps receiver was about £50 from Amazon. I also had to buy an Android tablet as nobody has made an app to work with ios YET.

Think there is a lot of dissinfomation put out to push people into buying expensive gear they dont need..
For a grassland farmer 1 meter is plenty for fert spreading and a bit of weed spraying.
my phone will show which side of road i am driving, so that would be good enough.
other jobs like grass cutting or turning hay would be good too.

Has anybody got the link for the android app?

I assembled a simple sub £200 system from a second hand hp ipaq bought off eBay, a qstarz Bluetooth gps receiver, and a bit of software from lacos.de. It's pretty much the same as the tractorgps.com system, except they install software by satcon systems. It's fine for fert, bit of spraying, and cutting breaks in the silage.

The link @Gander posted is perfect for the job now(y). That's a great find, thank you (my iPAQ fell out the cab last year and is no longer:().

The qstarz GPS will give 30cm pass to pass accuracy, pretty much the same asentry level systems that cost £1000.

However the qstarz is only about £50!!!
