@COWCARE SYSTEMS i was curious; what colour are your led lights ?

Reason I ask is I see on the news about tablets having a very blue tint to thier backlighting which discourages sleeping. It mainly came about because of an app that changes the tint of the screen to a more warm colour.

What colour are your led lights and does the colour have an effect on cow comfort in any way and/or the 'brightness' of them?

I agree with Cowcare on wattage, but the recommended minimum for a shed is 40 lux, rising to 50 lux if you want to read a label etc.,see our LJRF 48-1160 attached, this is IP66 with a minimum life of 50,000 hours or about ten years with no maintenance other than a high pressure jet wash to clean it - lojerledlighting.co.uk

Slightly on a tangent but we upgraded the lighting in one of our store calf sheds over the summer and we also wired in two smaller lights connected to a dusk to dawn sensor. Would never have believed the difference , its not two suns we put in just enough for the calves to see each other and the shed layout and no where near enough to affect their sleep. But their intake of feed ration per day has jumped up as they are continuing to eat throughout the night , they appear a lot less stressed as I don't care what anyone says but calves do not appreciate the dark ! and in turn they are a lot easier to handle and are more docile than the calves that went pitch black each night in the same shed in previous years.

Just acquired a pair of 150watt metal halide lights to go in a shed I use be just the job I hope.
There are actually a sodium light but I have replaced the bulbs with a metal halide one which works with sodium running gear(y)

Sodium is useless yellow light no good for nothing. Got 2 x 70watt sodium lights I replaced with metal halide bulbs a few years ago they are way better.

got the bulbs from here www.bltdirect.com
