Lime for lambing pens.

I should know this, but exactly which lime is the correct one to chuck in the pens to help keep dry and help keep on top of bugs. Where is best to grab a few bags?

Well to put it another way I use it and it works but someone might come along and say that’s not the thing to do. It’s worked for 35 years or more

Whatever you do, do not use Quick Lime (Calcium Oxide). It reacts with water and urine? to produce Slaked Lime (Calcium Hydroxide) in a very exothermic reaction. It can cause serious burns to ewes and lambs and even set the bedding alight.

We’ve used ‘BactiBed’ the last few years, its lime based and seems to keep infection levels to a minimum in the pens for us
