Lining brick build fireplace

If it is in your own house and your going yo look at it every night would it not be better to knock it out and do it how you want it in bricks or what ever. it may cost more but in the long term you will forget the cost but if your not happy with the look it will drive you mad for years .

I’m not stuck on the bricks idea it’s the practicality of them that appealed as no need to render/cover/line etc!! All the quotes are coming in now! Really like an AGA stove and a Morso. Not sold on a Clearview as they’re a steel stove but everyone rates them so bit stuck on the actual woodburner now aswell!!

Burleys are sold just down the road from here and been recommended by one installer that came to look at the chimney. He mentioned that their only issue is that there’s a knack to start them and once you master it they’re a superb stove.

He is right about starting them but it stays in so well you don't need to light them that often

Nothing just a lot are adamant that they will warp and that cast is better, but cast ones crack!! Six of one and half a dozen....

Clearview are meant to be the dogs doo dahs but I wont pay a premium just for a badge though

In the end we dry lined the front of the chimney breast to hopefully minimise any cracking and fire boarded the inside! Cut the oak plank down a bit and stuck it on and fitted stop bead all around it and plastered up to the stop bead.

Pretty sure you need building regs approval for installing a wood burner unless it's fitted by a HETAS registered 'engineer'.

No I don't think that's quite true.

But obviously you do want to make sure you have carbon monoxide dectector working

Which stove have you decided upon?

Went for a Morso stove in the end as the supplier/installer was the most helpfull and knowledgeable when they did a site visit. They just had one look and said this, that and the other needed doing. The others were humming and highing and wanted to know how I wanted it done and that I should choose a cowl etc!

Funny enough they came to fit the stove this morning. Got them to light it up aswell seeing as they were here and they told me to keep it going all afternoon to burn the smell off and bake the paint. From initial experimentations today it’s a very controllable stove. Managed to shut her right down if need be.

Just need to lay these down now

It’s a 4.5 or just under the 5kw therefore does not need a vent. It’s a 5 inch flue

They wouldn’t supply the next size up but still a 5kw as that one is not as controllable due to it being very windy were we are. That one woukd of been better as it had a larger fire box to take larger logs.

if fitting a stove again ,I would install some sort of sump to sweep spills into with a lift out bucket and a top cover. nothing huge just a simple thing
