That’s just a reflection from inside the aircraft! If you look at the dark field of wheat on the left you can also see my leather watch strap! I wondered what that was myself before I realised!

Ahh, yes I see the stitching on the strap now!
Had you ever grown linseed before this year then?
The flyers that come in the post always make it look so easy and attractive but everyone always say you only grow it once, but you’ve obviously proved them wrong!

I’d grown spring linseed before, and had several disasters with that, so was reluctant to try winter.

However, it’s a totally different crop. Very easy to establish, and there is good support from Premium Crops etc with agronomy.

Total N is about 150 kgs, and apart from a couple of fungicides and a PGR, there’s nothing really to do except for weed control.

Combining was a doddle. The trick is to cut it when the seed is <9% but the stems are green. If you wait a fortnight more, the stems can apparently ‘ret’ and be much tougher. It was so easy to cut though.

Did you bother desiccating that? Doesn’t look like it.

We have 200 acres of Spring Linseed this year which in fairness looks really good, question is do we desiccate or not as there are many conflicting views on the subject , our agronomist suggests we do but having not grown it for 20 years I do wonder as its going off nicely at the moment ,

In my opinion, it depends if crop is variable in maturity or has late emerged weed. If like most crops it is variable/ weeds are present, desiccation will help even up the crop and control any weeds present. Up to you at the end of the day :)
