Liquid fert bowser

Is there any reason we couldn’t secure multiple IBC’s to our bale trailer, plumb together and use these as a bowser? Or any other alternative suitably safe options. Travelling about 4-5 miles

Contractor locally has bowsers he drops off ready for delivery. Are you spraying aftercut?

changing everything onto liquid N. Had enough of bags ripping, difficult access, unloading lorries in the pissing rain, huge amount of plastic waste and in all honesty the madness that is let’s hang a bag above the spinner reach under and hope we don’t get hurt.
oh and the well just squeeze another bag in on this last trip and then half of its all
Over the yard.

don’t forget how much more accurate it is and quicker to get to work. Can’t believe the difference in grass that has had N32 applied after 6 days. If it was baggged stuff it wouldn’t have done much being so dry. Bit of scorch but can live with that and has seemed to grow away from it

not particularly handy in a grazing situation though? Like to follow the cows round the platform so that they aren’t grazing grass that tastes bitter

will you just do the whole platform once a month on a set day?

buying our own sprayer to be able to cope with that. We currently go once every 14-21 days so plan to do the same. We’ve spare staff this time of year so it’s easy it will be done. In some ways it should be easier than bags.

Probably safer easier and not a lot more expensive to just get a demountable tank for the trailer rather than peeing about with fittings and bits of pipe to join IBCs together. How big a sprayer you getting.? A decent sized trailer sprayer and just return to base to fill?

this Was one option but distance is fairly large at critical times ie post silage so knocked it on the head. Going for a 2500-3000l SP and have been strongly advised that runningfull is a recipe for knackered wheel motors

Long road runs and hydraulic wheel motors are not great, but 4 or 5 miles is not a long run compared to what most local contractors seem to do. Still a few options for sprayers with mechanical drive.

To be honest most of the problems-and risks (with the exception of plastic waste) you outline above can be mitigated by ensuring safe working practices are adhered to, no need to be reaching under bags to open them! Strapping a clutch of IBC’s to a trailer all needing filled and emptied would be a fair risk to operator and the environment when a spillage or other incident occurs and would be far less safe than bags properly handled

Wow! That’s a fair commitment
Have you thought of bulk fert in silos? With a weighing spreader could be an option?

agreed it is,been something I’ve been considering for a number of years and with a few opportunities arising for crop spraying too I think it’s the right time to make the move Wasn’t aware that was an option, blown in like a cake lorry then?

valid points the way we planned to do it is they’d act as one and onefill and empty point. I had assumed we’d need a degree of side protection for them as it was a hazardous product.

I appreciate that but if your investing in a SP sprayer I’d go the whole hog and invest in a proper tank (be that a bowser or trailer mounted ) and make the job as safe and user friendly as possible
