I’ll be going any time from now on 2nd and 3rd wheats. Most of the first wheats can wait a bit longer, but I will most likely be aiming for earlier than usual.

Timing of liquid would be the same as for AN. I’m out of the country at the moment but you ought to be able to see evidence of growth worth feeding.

Has anyone done the T Sum 200 accumulated day degrees formula yet? It used to be early Feb in the South but in really mild winters got too close to NVZ closed periods so was no longer used. Start with intensive grass, then osr then winter barley then second/continuous wheat then first wheat.

We have done our OSR and winter barley and the ww behind oats will get some as soon as the weather is favourable again.

Snowdrops are out and lawn growing surprisingly well here, so rightly or wrongly I put 40kgN liquid UAN+S on most of our second and third wheats on Monday. It’s at least a month earlier than normal, but any soil N left will have been washed well down the soil profile from the heavy winter rains and it just seems to me like if there was ever a year that justifies some earlier N it is this one! Especially as we use pretty low seed rates compared to most and after such an unforgiving autumn and winter I don’t want to loose too many tillers on these fields. I guess time will tell if I’ve go too early or put too much on, but on these fields it feels like the right thing to do! Fingers crossed!

A week is best but 5 days minimum, as above. The fertiliser will have stressed the target weeds too which may compromise the uptake.
