So if I buy one will I have more money in my bank account at the end of the year?
Well if it’s saving you fert it means you can buy a bag or more less, so yes obv it depends what amount your putting through it a season, each to their own I can see the benefits and have had customers remark how it’s saved them fert and not had issues with flat crops on overlaps,

We have a sprayer on liquid fert with section control and fert spreader doesn't. Don't see any difference at present. But only at 28m.

At 36m I would see it as a must. I've tried spreading fert with my spreader on grass at 36m and can see overlaps clearly.

As I said each to their own 👌

Spread around 500t of granular last year with a big 7 bag machine. But no electrics at all. So set speed which is annoying. Would like to go weigher but am scared of big bills and being parked up with problems. I like to hitch up and go. Had a oil pipe go this year and that was annoying. Are people finding them reliable machines with all the toys

My Amazone is 5 years old and the only problem I have had is a cracked hydraulic block. Not really electrical. If it has affected its resale then I don't care, fertiliser savings have paid for for the extra technology probably 10x over.

If you lot want to go back to the horse and cart you do so - my next spreader will have SC and probably wind correction as well. Let the electronics do the work, they do a better job than any human can.

Ask yourself many sections have you on your existing sprayer how many are you thinking ideally you would like on your new sprayer? So why would you want a single 24m section for Fert knowing your spend will be fair greater on Fert than it is on agro chemicals so the premium cost of the section control can earned back far faster.

A lot has to do with operator comfort as well, if you have a spreader with auto shut on/off and section control it's a lot easier on the operator on the ins n outs even better if your tractor as a vario gearbox, come to the end spreader shuts off where it needs to gentle pull back on stick for slower smooth turn, into next bout push forward to desired speed as spreader switches back on by itself, far easier/smoother on both operator and machine

I’ve used Vicon spreaders 24 years mostly weigh cell and geo,s hardly ever had flat patches
I don’t think I’ve saved any significant amount always ordered x times acres by weight
as I’ve said before I’ve done many tests it’s down to operator been bothered when it’s switched on at ends and (gushets) up here
and I am and have used a geo for the last x years
wouldnt want to be without weigh cells I think they give you the biggest saving in fert accurate all day irregardless how much dust or damp builds up in the bottom of the spreader

We've ordered a geospread and asked the rep how much fert it would save. The book says up to 15% and he reckoned 10% on an average farm going from manual left/right to full 1m section control. Even on square fields its around 5% and I'd believe it, its not just ends and gares but 3/4 width runs where the machine can cut down the widths. We only do ~120t of fert a year but even this with a 5% saving at £600/t is £3,600 and pays for the whole spreader in <8 years (current one is 16!). It's also little further cost to add section control given you already need an isobus screen to run it. Unlock code is ~£900 and the GPS receiver with light bar is ~£1,500 so it's not much, granted geospread is more too.

Got an 11 year old ZAM Ultra Profis which I've had from new. It's been very little trouble at all. Put a new set of vanes on it about 4 years ago & had a sensor fail 2 years ago which I think cost about £400 to repair. I've a lot of irregularly shaped fields & auto start & shut off on the headlands has been fantastic. The only thing I didn't like was the cost of it in 2011, I think it was £16,800. But as one poster said there's a weak second hand market for them.
